Anyone know what's going on, under hard acceleration engine power drops off to nearly nothing. Re starting engine resets it with power back to normal. Can be quite dangerous when overtaking in the outside lane when suddenly your going nowhere.

Sounds like limp mode, probably your turbo over boosting but when you restart the engine the car resets itself until the next time you accelerate hard. Get the car on a computer and scanned for codes

Yup, as said it's limp mode. If it's diesel you're definitely looking at stripping and cleaning the turbo and if that doesn't fix then a new or recon turbo.

If it a Deisel then the above sounds about right.
If you have a petrol it could be your turbo diverter valve has a slit in the diaphragm.
