Afternoon all,
Just done a quick Haldex oil change, definitely needed it, as my car now drives and feels how it use too.
My cars now just hit 40k, and it’s been faultless.

Took the pump off.
Filter tip was clogged / blocked all the way round pretty much
The oil was very soiled that came out of the diff housing

I can recommend doing this regularly ..... piece of mind if nothing else

Excuse the noob question but do all A3's have a haldex pump or is it just the Quattro's ?

I've got a 2013 PFL 8V. 2.0 TDI s-line . Heard of the haldex oil change, is there a good tutorial on how to do it ?

@Scotty75 yhe pump is only for Haldex based Quattro systems

If you have a search, I think there’s a tutorial - but I wouldn’t know for sure, never looked for one.

It’s a fairly simple process, but you’ll need a syringe to refill the diff, but other than that no special tools required

5mm Allen key (fill plug hole)
10mm Allen key (drain plug)
syringe To refill
T27 torques bit (pump removal)

It requires 750mm of Haldex oil

All quite simple

Thanks for the info. As its only for the Quattro I don't need to worry, at least till we upgrade anyway!

Very interesting to see. I woke up in a cold sweat this morning thinking about Haldex/S-Tronic servicing as I've done ~24k miles in 15 months

Having spoken to Audi UK asking where the literature is, either onboard or offboard, they informed me Haldex recommendation is
every 3 years, and S-Tronic is every 80k miles

In my opinion, the 80k schedule for the STronic is far too long, as the mechatronic unit is sensative, I went on the theory of sooner is better, prevention is cheaper than a new unit !

After the state of my haldex pump/filter, at 40k, I think I’ll do mine every 25k tops
Again, prevention is cheaper than cure !

But each to there own.

Did mine at 45k and it was a bit dirty but not as bad as some I’ve seen at 15k. I’ll be doing mine

Were you getting wheelspin before cleaning the pump screen?

Did the cleaning fix it?

I am getting wheelspin, but no fault from VCDS scan. Thanks.

S Tronic is every 38K !! def not 80K where did you read this? I think it should be every 25-30K.
Haldex service at Audi should be completely ignored as needs doing every 10-15K plus Audi wont clean the filter even if asked to as it isn't a procedure they agree with. this must be don't at an Indi or at home as part of the fluid change.

This has been mentioned on this site umpteen times and cant be stressed enough. If the filter hasn't been cleaned on a car with 30K plus then expect a pump failure at some point.

I dont really understand this 40k schedule. maybe it is different unit to the one that was on my old 3.2 quattro but the schedule for that was oil change every 20k, gearbox oil every 40k. My S3 is booked in to have it done next month with just over 30k miles on it.

Booked in with Audi?

Oh no, definitely not. Using my local garage who are a VW specialist and have looked after all my cars for the last 20 years (including my old 3.2 quattro which I had for 10 years). They do a good job and charge a 3rd of Audi's hourly rate.

I want to also get my haldex service done but a lot of the garages in Leicester such as audi/lion garage have said they don't need to clean the filter so I'm struggling to find someone who will do the job correctly. they quoted me £99 to get it done.

I personally think it should be an annual service for what it actually is. Done mine at 15k ish and was bad.

How about offering to supply a new filter (about 40 quid at various places on the net) and ask them to fit that too, and request the old one back so you can clean it yourself and reuse for the next service.

Think I’ve been lucky with my Haldex, can’t say the same with the rest of the car haha!

Had mine changed at 17,500 miles and the filter was very very clean.

Be wary if Audi do it, they don’t clean the filter!! Not on the service schedule.

I had it done as soon as I bought my car (3.5 years years old 44k miles, never had Haldex oil replaced nor gauze clean) and I think I managed to revive a dying/struggling Haldex pump :) It was slipping sometimes and there was an error on the computer about the pump failing. @DJAlix reset the warning and it's been fine since then!

I had to have a new pump as mine was blocked and wrote the pump off. Had the front wheels spinning or bouncing ( wheel hop) in first and second. Cost £220.

I had mine checked when I had a re-map, glad I did. 20,000miles.

Where are people buying there Haldex oil from that are changing it themselves, direct from Audi?

I got mine from Skoda. It was a bit cheaper.

I think FEBI do an equivalent. Anyone used it?

Yep, so far so good. I’m more interested to see the state of the oil when I change it at 40.000km. Then it will have been running 12.000km, half of it on a tuned car.

For those who have done the screen cleaning and oil change, did you notice any functional improvement in the Haldex system?

Here is mine after 21k

Did you notice any wheelspin before the cleaning? Did you notice any improvement after the cleaning?
First thing in the morning I would get a little bit of rear spin and launch in the damp I would get it too.

Mine is the pic with just 8k and at last 1/4 I went to on first launch of the day I lit the fronts and after that seemed OK so why I thought it may be time to get it done deffo feels more instant now and less laggy with clean filter
