hi guys,
has anyone had one of these haldex inserts on their car for a long term review?
was the talk of the forum then kind of died?

want to know reliability, any flaws and how well they work etc?

come on someone must have bought one of these

Nut Bolt 1331745

and...

Hammer 1

...leap to mind but meh...

My understanding is that the haldex is always partially engaged due to the affect of this on the valving so you won't be able to use 2wd dynos unless you remove the insert prior to a run..

Can see how this works but seems a bit like using a nail for a fuse to me

how would this differ compared to yours set on permanent 50:50 tuffty?

tbh im thinking of using one purely for testing for now before i leap in and get a controller at 600 quid.

Mines not 50:50 until told... its still has full articulation and controlled by the controller where the insert is a mechanical fixture that alters the way the valving works... in context of actual engagement and feel then its plausible the insert will feel better than std but its still using the std algorithm for haldex engagement so there is potentially still a bit of a delay in initial engagement...

Try it and see... I have no doubt it will have the affect of making the haldex engagement feel stronger but its not something I would feel comfortable with personally...

I agree with Tuffty on this, the fully locked Haldex would be ideal for competition use, but for road use, you are just going to kill your transmission. I suspect your mpg would drop from the transmission losses, and the first thing to break would be the transfer box at the gearbox end.

i was only going to try it for very small time to see how the s3 felt with 4wd

im still debating fwd or even changing car tbh.
i dont want to keep it if its never going to be a nice drive.
oem haldex is defo no good

These inserts render whatever map is on the controller irrelevant

The controller is sending out full actuation pressure continuously with one of these jamming the control valve

I would have no quarms over fitting one to a track/rally car

For someone on a budget they offer a good solution, imho

hmmm ok
my car is 90 percent track tbh i drivebit very little.
i guess im trying to figure out if this car is worth keeping or not without having to spend another 700 quid on it if you see mg point

Fit one

It will be a massive improvement

The extra advantages of the touchscreen controllers, specifically for track/rally cars are tbh 'icing on the cake' type stuff

For those on a budget the extra cost of the touchscreen controllers would be much better spent in other areas first, imho

ps

If you're building a rallycross car it'd one of these or a SQS Regulator, as active controllers are not permitted

karl i dont
its just really not great on track
not to say it cant be
i just dont wanna throw money at it if its never going to be.
if that makes sense
if it looks like it can be made to be good then great
i have no issue putting good bits on it but i can test the water with these things first i will
i just dont wanna fit one if its going to kill something.

if it looks hopeful ill keep it.
i like that its not a common track car but
if not ill buy something with a much better chassis like m3 or elise or what not

it would mean breaking my car as its not worth a carrot as is
i have 2 trackdays booked and will do them in the s3 and see how i get on i guess.

Just sort your suspension issues out first Daz! And when it actually starts to handle again like it should, then you will start to enjoy it more.

im so unsure what to do with mine its unreal lol

tbh Karl im not sure if an s3 is better on or off the road for 2 years lol
that pic is the best pic ever on ASN
certainly the most appropriate!!

all joking aside i dont hate it i just dont want to waste money to find out i should have gone elsewhere
i think i will keep it im just a moany little *****

and though the m3 is an epic car, what puts me off one is that theres loads at every track day
stupid i know but it puts me off.

i like turning up in something a little unknown!
that way when im the slowest there i ensure everyone else they got it right lol
