The Grill is held on by 10 torx screws, and around 17 clips. Work your way from the top, then down each side once you have removed the torx screws. 2 pairs of hands makes this easier, or if you're a loner, have around 5 small flat blade screw drivers! lol The parking sensors are just pushed in, and there are adaptors on the end of them, you need to remove these for them to fit the RS6 grill. The wiring will need to be undone a little, as the sensors sit an inch or 2 above the S-Line positions. The function of them works perfectly in the higher position. Putting the RS6 grill on, make sure you put the bottom end in first. There's a plastic lip thing, this need to go over the lower bumper before you push the top bit in, then it all just clips together, and bolts back up using all 10 torx screws. You need to decide at this point whether you want to have the black Audi rings, or transfer the chrome one from your old grill? The supplied black one is of poor quality, and needs a bit of trimming to fit, but once it's on, you can't see how cheap it is.

Then refit is the reverse of the take off procedure above.

Please note, these fitting instructions if for the aftermarket grill. A genuine RS6 grill requires a slight mod of the mounting holes to make it fit.

I am thinking on shortening the holder whilst changing the grill but am concerned that if I ever want to revert back to a full size holder, the bumper would need to come off to change it back again. Any thoughts?

It's all mesh pattern the whole RS6 grill, but 2 of the mesh voids are filled for you to screw into.

So a little update on a few things I got done in the last few days. Really limited with time, so it's maybe a 5 minute job for some of you, it never is easy from my end! lol

The Audi Rings on the tailgate was flapping about after a jet wash on Sunday, so I had a little poke, and it came off completely! When it came off, it became clear the tailgate has had a respray at some point, a good job paint wise, I can't even tell, but the lazy bodyshop left the black sticky pads on from the rings and sprayed over it! The replacement rings was 10mm bigger, so I had to reuse the old one and glue it back on somehow...

After lightly sanding, a couple coats of plastic primer.

Followed by a couple of coats of Brilliant Black I have left over from my first S3.

Back on the boot lid she goes!

Now for the wing badges. My car isn't a Black Edition, so I only did the one side first to see how it looked?

I had intended to paint my calipers, but rain halted play, even though I managed to clean one caliper! lol I removed the plates from the calipers to paint them black and put S Line stickers on them, the screw that holds the plate also holds the pad retaining clip, so I can't really drive about with it on.

Lining up the S-Line heat resistant stickers, I thought it would look stupid, so went with just the 'S' part, looks pretty good actually. the black paint didn't come out as I expected due to rain during the drying process, but it's not important on the brakes.

Back onto the caliper

Wheel back on

Really need a good few hours to paint these calipers to finish the look.

Armrest Drinks holder retrofit. Thanks @Rhyso for supplying the part number for the surrounding trim. Mike from 'Parts Request' sent me out one for cheaper than Audi could supply me! I got the last one in the country, so if anyone wants to order one, you'll need to wait a week for it to be shipped from Germany!

Good morning all, nothing much to report to be honest, but I've hit over 10k miles already, so it's due for a service again, and I literally just dropped the car at Audi, after booking it in yesterday! The visual inspection was done on an iphone on a selfie stick, saves a bit of time I guess.

The car took me upto the lake district with zero fuss last week, 180 miles one way in one stint, no problem, and felt great getting out the car.

I did have a moment of worry on Saturday though, the stop/start system kicked in at a junction, and when it fired back up, it felt like it was running on 5 cylinders! Pulled over, engine off and back on again, and it was fine! Got to my destination, and did a VCDS scan, and it showed nothing. It could be signs of injector failure as experienced by fingermouse, as I'm on similar mileage. Will need to keep an eye out for this.

Another thing that failed yesterday was the passenger side wing mirror indicator, it seems intermittent. I can see moisture in the lense, so I plan to take it off and dry it to see if that cures it? Audi want 50 quid for this part! lol

What fuel are you using? I've been running mine on shell v-power and it doesn't like it at all. Switched to BP ultimate and early signs are good. Less noise and very smooth.

I use Shell only, normal stuff usually, V-Power after every 3rd fill. No issues of running, apart from the little injector hiccup on Saturday in the last 10k miles! Just picked my car from Audi with everything all clear on the inspection front aswell. Not bad for 108k miles!

I don't think it's a good idea to use the Ultimate/VPower stuff continually. Yes, it keeps things clean like the fuel lines and injectors etc. , but I just feel that dervs run good with a bit of crap inside of them. There is no performance benefit in paying the premium.

I use Diesel V-Power in my BITDI with absolutely no issues so far... Runs far better imho!

Interesting, with v power I hear a slight course diesel rattle on cold acceleration but with the bp nothing. I'll monitor it and see how it goes.

Mine went on for an oil change on Friday, £270 for some oil!!! Was quoted £340 ish up the road at Wimbledon....... "Much higher hourly rate than the countryside sir" - Walton on Thames is hardly the outback ......

They noticed a few "red flag" issues - tyres down to 4mm, and brake fluid needs changed soon.

They also told me that the gearbox oil needed changing in 10,000 miles and they could do it now to save me the hassle - I then pointed out that I believed the ZF unit was a sealed one and doubtful that the oil should be changed - cue silence for about 20 seconds, then a "yes..... Um, yes - you may just be right..... I'll have a word with the tech"

Place your bets on how much they were more expensive per corner than Black Circles for a set of 20" Bridgestones, and then think about how much for the fluid change.....

It would be nice if Audi did change the fluid on the ZF boxes, it's strange the Audi say they are sealed for life, but ZF give a service interval for the boxes.

£80 quid a corner and £90 for the brake fluid!!

Goes to show how an oil change can become £1400 in the blink of eye, and I'm allowing the fact that it was a mistake on the gearbox oil.... How many punters just shrug thinking that dealer knows best......

Not sure what to do when my car comes up for service, I want the stamps but that is all I want. When I've had cars in for oil changes I always supply my own oil (quantum stuff) as I'm not paying Audi prices for oil.

It's £230 for just an oil change at my local Audi, but I pointed out I was charged £199 last time due to being over 3 years old! The lady pointed out I had a private reg, so didn't know the age of my car, so I'll let her off. The £199 includes a full inspection, but if your car is under 3 years old and still under the manufacturers warranty on the mileage front, it's £230 for the oil and filter only, inspection is an additional cost!

They also told me that the gearbox oil needed changing in 10,000 miles and they could do it now to save me the hassle - I then pointed out that I believed the ZF unit was a sealed one and doubtful that the oil should be changed - cue silence for about 20 seconds, then a "yes..... I enquired about the gearbox oil service, as it's not part of the service schedule, they couldn't give me a quote on the spot, but I told them I want a quote, so call me back. The service tech got back to me and said they have the tools to do the work, but it's a sealed unit fit for the life of the car, so warned me servicing it could do more harm than good, so there wouldn't be any warranty if the gearbox failed! But he told me it's around £475 for the work, and that doesn't include the filter, which is the most expensive part!

Continuing with my personal updates, it's been very warm and humid the last 2 days, and the passenger side wing mirror indicator seems to have fixed itself!

I reverted back to my 19" wheels, as I didn't want them to mark my 20s, the car is noticeably quicker and darty on the 19s, despite only 1kg difference in weight per wheel!

Can't believe the woman in the dealers didn't know the age of the car.All the details would be on the system. You don't have any warranty on the gearbox at the moment so how can having the oil changed affect the warranty.

Think he meant, in a subtle type of way. If the gearbox failed soon after the oil change, it would be my problem, as its me who requested the work to be done.

I priced the oil, strainer and new seal whilst I was picking up a new pas pipe for the S3. Again audi said sealed for life but the parts guy said hmmm yes I know why your asking. Parts alone came to £450 with a bit of discount. Think the oil was £40 a litre and box takes 9 litres but would probally only take 8 on a change.

He couldn`t say how it was done as audi don`t have a method as they claim its sealed for life.

All the instructions on how to remove and replace the ATF filter and check / change the gearbox oil are contained in Elsa Win.
It actually says in the instructions for the filter replacement
"On high-mileage vehicles, it is recommended to renew the ATF filter if the ATF oil pan is removed → Chapter. Otherwise the ATF filter only has to be renewed if it has been damaged."
Doesn't state what High mileage is though.
Oil would be the most significant cost of this change if it was done using Audi supplied oil.

Afternoon all, nothing much to report to be honest, but today is exactly 12 months I've owned the beast!

Very happy with my purchase, a few niggling issues like a failing wing mirror indicator. It's still blinking, but no longer orange! Lol, I will get round to buying a replacement soon.
Took her Upton Scotland earlier in the week, 300 miles one way, and didn't break a sweat, excellent cruising ability! Got me home safely, so happy I got myself an automatic, it just makes life so much easier in traffic.
