Great pics
Thanks Simon.. I cant take credit for those lol these are the pro shots that I've bought and paid for :)

I've got stacks more "less-professional" pics, and vids, but they are too big to dump on here

Thanks Eric - I have to admit... normally this amount of modding would have taken me years, but I've gone a tad overboard this last 12 months.

I'm working on the proviso that i know i plan to do this stuff, so why wait.. get it done now and enjoy it :)

Only a few more bits to do, and i think i'll be done: Meyle HD upper control arms; maybe a new exhaust; maybe a different air intake; few cosmetic bits.. black out the new heat exchanger; rear diffuser... oh, and i really want to get it dyno'd.

How do you find the MPS4's? I'm heading away from Eagle 5 as the price has gone stupid.

Love them! I ran the older PS4s on my stage 2 Tiguan for years, and did many track days and they were great.. But for the heavier S4 wagon i wanted to try the PS4Ss and i have zero complaints. They are pretty quiet, warm up quick, good in all weather, and reasonably priced.

If doing a lot of track action (like i have), the sidewall has scrubbed off pretty quick.. but thats my fault for lobbing round such a heavy barge on twisty circuits, and i dont suppose any other tyre would do any different.

In the interest of science i may try the new PS5s next time round, as ive heard good things about them too..

And before anyone calls me a MPS fanboy.. ive also tried Toyo's, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asys, Dunlop Sportmaxxs, and Pirelli Pzeros. and whilst some are better at one thing.. in my opinion they dont compare across the board.

Hope that helps.. i'll now hop off my soapbox :)

I’m running the mps5 on mine now and rate them better than the 4s, in fact I can’t wait til I get to put a set on the GTR to replace the 4s I have in there at the moment.

Had you considered a second set of rims fitted with semi slicks? Like affordable Nankang AR-1s... Wondering if that might be more cost effective in the long run...
Great watching your build! Keen to here your thoughts on the breathing upgrades!

I have - altho i think Mrs Goose would kill me if i stack up yet more car parts in the garage... i dismantled my Karmann Ghia several years ago into a thousand pieces to start a nut and bolt restoration, then we moved house.. then started house renovations, and now i cant find anything in the garage :/

I used to have a set of 19" BBS CH-Rs for my old mk4 R32 Golf... wish I'd kept them (not that they'd fit the S4).

If i did anything i'd drop to 18", and opt for lightweight race rims like a TD 1.2, or OZ...

Hey @g00se loving the build, what do you think of the scorpion half system?

I have the zaustworx rear silencer delete pipes fitted on mine (was on when I bought it) but they drone quite a bit

Wondering what you make of the Scorpion half system.?

Hi AJ,

I have gutted cats going to resonated Scorpion downpipes and the then the Scorpion resonated half system... so effectively replicating the OEM system, only in 2.5" instead of 2.25".. and the silencers / resonators are smaller than stock. So all in all, it is marginally louder, and prone to a small amount of drone at 2k / 80mph, but nothing unbearable, and very manageable.

I am too old for ASBO exhausts.. i just want the performance.. without all the noise lol!

Hope that helps

Not happy with 034 Motorsport... they now say my X34 carbon intake "may" be with me mid-March!!!

I have already waited 8 weeks.. and that will be another 8-9 weeks.

I get really ticked-off paying out for things that say "in stock" or "2-4 week lead-time".. only for them to fob you off with varying BS excuses for weeks and weeks whilst your hard-earned is sat in their bank account rather than mine.

If you don't have it, and wont for months - PLEASE set me some realistic expectations from the get-go, I'm a big boy, ill get over it. What i wont get over, is you taking my cash and lying to me.

That sucks. I'd probably get a refund and take my business elsewhere as I dislike that kind of business practice.

As per above, my 034 intake is delayed further so i jumped on a FB opp to buy an unused ECS rear diffuser for £100 less than Awesome wanted :)

I have to say I've had ECS Tuning grille accents from Awesome in the past and sent them back for a full refund as the fitment was terrible... so i was a tad nervous giving them another shot!

Annnnd, i had full right to be!!!! All the YT vids show Americans popping off their old diffusers, and popping this new one on in 10-15 mins - I call BS. 2 hours of slowly frigging around all id managed to do was snap 4 tabs of the fragile ECS diffuser, so i stopped what i was doing and put the old one back on till this weekend. Another 3 hours this weekend, and i Dremel'd off most the remaining tabs as they were preventing it from seating correctly, and Tiger Seal'd the ****** on there forever :smilingimp:Ratchet straps from the exhaust hangers to the tie-hooks in the boot, and masking tape kept it in place for 24hrs whilst the glue cured.

I should add, i also had to Dremel quite large chunks out of the inside corners too, as they fouled on the rear Scorpion silencers.

Well.. its on. And im not sure i like it DOH! Oh well.. now i need to get to an exhaust specialist to extend the rear back box tips as they now sit too far in and there's no extra length to just wiggle/extend them :/

The highs and lows eh?! HAHAHA why do i put myself thru it :help:

Popped over to see Jeff at Pipewerx in Ormskirk and got the backbox tips extended, so they sit flush... am much happier with the look of the diffuser and exhaust now.

Am now considering front splitter options and maybe a rear spoiler lip... mostly because im still sulking that my 034 intake still isnt here LOL

I went with the Carbon CT front splitter for £96 in the end as i didn't fancy paying circa £200 for a Maxton one! I am looking at getting a gloss black ducktail spoiler lip soon too.

034 intake update... ordered end of Nov in the Black Friday sales, was told del Dec, then Jan, then Feb.. and new ETA is mid April!!!!!

I know for a fact that Awesome GTI is the sole UK disti for 034 kit and all other UK resellers of 034 buy from Awesome on a tiered basis, and Awesome only put 2 orders in a month to 034 in the US... but WTF is taking so long?!?!?

This is taking the total ****.

Picked up an 034 25.4mm rear anti roll bar this week, in readiness for my first track day this year at Anglessey in May... so my 22.5mm RS4 rear ARB will be up for sale soon.

Still more delays on the 034 x34 intake.. they are now saying mid May ***!! Am looking at switching to maybe an APR or ECS Luft Technik option.. but they aren't in stock either!!

Need also to book an oil change, new plugs, brake fluid flush, and look into ditching the air in my tyres in favour of nitrogen... plus am still deliberating on front splitters... oh and i keep eyeing up R8 V10 Plus style alloys.

I had the Leyo paddle extenders on my old Stage 2 Tig and they were great, so took the plunge and picked a set for the wagon...

The brushed ali option seemed to be a different shade to the Audi brushed ali surrounds on the FBSW paddles.. so rather than be mis-matched i purposely went for gloss black for a bit of contrast.. plus it matches the gloss black on the dash and centre console :)

Am on the fence as to look.. would prefer them not to have the branding on them (the old Tig ones had no writing!).. and finger space between the wheel and paddle is compromised, however i believe the increased paddle shift surface area outweighs the negative.

Also (not sure this qualifies as a mod?!?), i updated my MMI to the latest 2023 maps and firmware from Ben @ thenavman.com

I read the reviews, and whilst their are some horror stories i figured if i order the right version, take my sweet time, follow the instructions to the letter, then all will be good - and it was.

Not gonna lie tho, it was hands-down the most boring car job ive done.. all in it took just over two hours sat in the car on the drive with the engine running

Where are you tracking the car mate?
Anglesey with trackdays.co.uk

Have never done this track before, but have always wanted to... plus its on the last Bank Holiday Monday in May so I don't have to use a days annual leave from work :)

I've heard its pretty tight n twisty so heavy on the brakes.. we will see how the big bus gets on! Plus my PS4Ss are a little "tired" having done Donnington and the Ring last year LOL so this may be the death of them.

Fingers crossed PS5Ss get released in the UK in the summer, so i can then try them out!

You fancy coming along too? The more the merrier :)

Not sure I'm free that weeknd, but will look into it.

My main focus this year is to get over to the 'Ring at some point. I miss that green hell
I have a few groups of car buddies.. some of which are going to the 'Ring in 2 weeks, but they are too hardcore for me LOL. Stripped out 500+bhp Golfs/Cupras etc, who smash out 50 laps in a few days... I'm more of an enthusiastic tourist :) (altho I've been going on and off for over 10 years).

I've decided to give it a miss this year and try to do more UK tracks instead.. i still have Brands, Snetterton, Cadwell & Silverstone to tick off the list.

Last year my mate in his V8 R8 got hit by a German in a Fiesta ST who decided to divebomb up the inside of him on Breidscheid corner.. Police got called, and they took one look at the English reg plate and said "50:50.. no fault" !! He was gutted, and his 13yr old daughter who was in the passenger seat was very shaken up.

R8

That place needs max respect, and you cant take your eyes off your mirrors for a second... still, best track in the world by far!!

goose

In my ignorance I assumed that the NR is a private road and all accidents are owner risk, covered if applicable by track-day insurance. Is that not the case?
What happens at a UK track in the event of an accident? Surely the police don't attend?

Its "technically" derestricted auobahn.. only its one way, and toll operated.

German policing is is bit odd, in that you can get fined for not driving with care or signaling and moving over to the right out of the way of faster moving traffic passing on the left. Also, in the case of the above, if they hit you in the rear, its your fault!

Trust me - on a busy tourist day on the Ring when hundreds of cars and bikes can be on it all at once - you REALLY have to have eyes in the back of your head, because there can be some seriously quick cars / drivers flying past you like you're standing still. Its pretty intimidating for noobies.

goose

I don't think I'll ever go - too risky for me. I have had fun in race cars at Thruxton, but I have no illusions that I'm any good.

Thruxton is a fast track.. I haven't been there since the late 90's (showing my age!) when i drove my mums TVR Grif 500 :)

Its noise limit is so low now tho pretty much only "normal" road cars can get on... anyone with a sports exhaust will fail the sound check.

goose

What's your thoughts on Gravity exhausts? There's a set of resonator delete downpipes for less than one OEM pipe. I'm worried that the lack of resonator will make it sound raspy, which I don't particularly like. LINK It says for manual cars only, which I don't really understand why it wouldn't be suitable for the DSG. Is it the lack of resonators or something?

Did you have your Scorpion resonated downpipes on with the rest of the exhaust being stock? If so, how did it sound? Cheers.
