OK so after thinking I would keep my S3 as stock I’ve booked it in for a stage 1 map. No frills as just curious really, maybe I’ll get the bug... Now I’m looking at insurance, any members got recommendations? Thanks in advance

Oh and it’s a good old 3 door 2010 s3 (8p) that already puts a silly grin on my face when I put my foot down

You will love the difference assuming you have no underlying problems.

To your question, try A-Plan, based in Thatcham. They are a broker for performance/modified cars and have done me well.

Adrian flux.. Meh I was with them for a few years with my modded vectra was paying 450 for all mods which it had a fair few.

Then I bought my s3 explained how it weren't modified but plan to so they based it on that, suspension and remap. Came back with a price of 950! I laughed.. Which was via the current underwriter AXA which was modified only policy. So asked if I were to end that one and go on a standard performance policy with another,to which they came back with 850 so no mods included in that price.. Seriously what a joke! I'm 38 with 14 yrs ncd ,Okay 9 is maximum I know but shows I'm no risk.

Went elsewhere and got it for 350 pfft rubbish customer service .

Nikki will do an excellent job for you. Make sure every job is sorted before you take it so that there will not be any problems when he is mapping it for you. As it will get a good thrashing on the dyno, ensure your engine oil is fresh enough.
The car will be tested thoroughly before mapping for any faults.
You will drive home with a smile on your face!

If you are handy with a torx set, check your DV.
I had mine mapped and logged the MAF to work out the BHP figures and found next to no improvement despite the car feeling better.
Turned out to be a DV which I replaced for less than £30 and found an extra 70bhp.
For the sake of ten minutes, it's worth checking in advance.

This will be part of the RTech check. If the DV is suspect they will suggest an oem part with the last letter of the part number ending in the letter G. This is known as a revision G Diverter valve.

R-tech ask for 5W40 oil to be used, I’ve just had 5W30 LONGLIFE oil used in full service. Any reason why the former should be used?

The 5W 40 oil will be slightly thicker when hot. Also recommended for higher mileage standard cars.
You are only going for a stage 1 map and so no worries. The only thing is that not all oils of the same viscosity ratings have the same lubricating qualities. If for example it was cheap oil you had fitted you are more likely to have premature wear of components like the fuel pump cam follower even if the rating is within the Audi recommendation.
Also most people with a tuned up engine change the oil much more frequently and certainly do not have longlife servicing. The longlife oil is OK , it is the massive amounts of time the oil is in the engine that is the problem.
Many of us with tuned engines use Millers Nanodrive engine oil.
If your car is tuned to stage 1+ or 2+ you will need a higher rated fuel pump. This puts even more strain on that cam follower mentioned above.
I read a post on another forum where the cam follower had worn through in only 2000 miles. That is bad as it costs lots to put right. Cheap oil from ECP had been used. On the other hand, I recently inspected the cam follower on a TTS at stage 2+. This car was using the Nanodrive oil. The car had done 5000 miles since I last inspected and the cam follower still looked brand new.

Thanks for reply I have been reading through other oil threads on forum but just led to confusion. Your explanation makes clearer for my own low mileage car 32k I shall confirm with r-tech and update to 5w40 if gives optimum protection Will only be several quid difference for peace of mind Thanks again

    **UPDATE**
Well car was mapped STAGE 1 earlier today & I’m really pleased with improvement. Initially car made 268hp in stock form and 316hp after. Insurance was extra £20.00 one off payment by current insurer LV. I know some of you guys like to see the dyno graphs so here you go[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Cool I'm thinking of getting a stage 1 from RTech too. I might get them to change all my recommend parts they list on their site.

Have to say, my exhaust note has got much better since my remap. Sure it doesn’t pop & fart all the time but as a stock exhaust it sounds really good. Love to stand at side of road and hear it pass by. Just thought I’d say..

Invest in a BCS Powervalve TB custom exhaust and you will notice a hell of a difference . Cost a pretty penny but just check out the classifieds as sometimes a full turboback comes up

I run a stock exhaust on stg 2+, you need to change the downpipe but the the rest of the system will flow fine and sounds great. save your money for something that will make a difference.
