My sons Golf R got stolen a while back, he had quite an interesting conversation with the Police,
If it's an OCG they are split into teams, one team steals it, one team fuels it, another moves it on, apparently if they catch the car with someone in it they just say
''I borrowed it off me m8 to go to Macky d's didnt I''
Cops say ''who's your mate'' toe rag they caught in car refuses to say who his mate is so they have to let him go ffs.

Much easier for the cops to prey on Law abiding motorists eh?

Eh? They pull over a car that’s reported stolen and just let someone off when they say that…. Hard to believe they’d let someone just walk off.

Maybe the car was stopped because the person/people in the car looked wrong somehow and it was before the car was reported stolen?

Nope, theyve got it sorted,
'borrowed it off me mate, I didnt know it was stolen''
no evidence against him that would stand up in court (except no insurance I imagine) so they have to let him go, the various 'OCG teams' do not even know each other

So driving around in a stolen car isn't enough for a trip to the Police station? Surely there's something wrong there. Otherwise the only people caught would have to be in the act of actually stealing the car!

To be fair if the guy said it was his mates he didn’t know it was stolen they can’t really arrest you for being duped by someone else but I can imagine you’ll be walking back to your ‘mate’ car less with probably 6 points, they will get his licence, name and address and if he doesn’t have a licence then he would be arrested and taken to the station surely but either way car recovered, people need to just work and get their own car I’d love a golf r but not stealing one and hurting someone ?

I agree that you shouldn't be in major trouble from the Police for being duped by your mate. My problem is if someone is in a stolen car and the Police have stopped them, refusing to say who the mate is surely means that the person in the car is a suspected car thief. Surely it should be investigated further before they're released at the roadside. Or how are any car thefts ever solved? I mean that poor bloke in the clip was assaulted and clearly very badly traumatised. In my opinion, getting his car back isn't enough if there's someone caught driving it. There should be consequences for these sub-humans.

That’s is the nastiest thing to happen to someone outside their house.
hope he’s ok.
I don’t think there’s enough bad words in the English language to describe these scumbags.

Yep, talking to a fellow German Sheperd dog owner last week (they owned a pub) theives broke in, Dog bit one of them, Police prosecuted Dog owner because the dog was downstairs by himself so technically not protecting them.....................could'nt make it up any better if you tried,

They havent been 'duped' by their mate, they are part of the OCG stealing the cars, they are just 'trained' (for want of a better word) in what to say, they DO NOT know any of the other gang members, they are all kept away from each other as if one is caught he has no idea who else is in the gang or any names

They're not released at the roadside, they are arrested, questioned and later released because there is not enough evidence for it to stand up in Court

^ All of this isn't my opinion, it is what the CID squad trying to catch these toe rags told my son

'Police Interceptors' on C4 or C5 should give you some idea of how many that get caught in a stolen car walk free

That is exactly it (although they are questioned and released), the Police have to prove it was them that actually stole the car.

So you miss the ''No action was taken against the driver or passengers in the stolen vehicle' bit then?

I’m not saying people don’t sometimes get away with it in court but never once have I seen the police pull someone over and go ah it’s your mates car, no it’s stolen btw but just get yourself home if your mate lent it to you…

And how often do those in the stolen car just ‘pull over’ if that’s not an indication they know it’s stolen I don’t what is.

What are they going to charge someone with who they stop driving a stolen car? If there is no video evidence, no statements saying who stole it, no DNA from the house (or from the site of the attack) the Police have no chance if they take it to Court

From a firm of solicitors, 6 months in prison ffs? so they'll likely do3 months and what difference would a ban or points make to these people anyway?

Aggravated Car Theft and Joyriding

As per Section 12, the offence will be considered to have been ‘aggravated' if the defendant drove the vehicle dangerously, caused damage to any other vehicles or property or caused any injuries, death or loss to other people.

The sentence for people convicted of aggravated car theft or joyriding is severe and includes long prison terms and large fines. A prison term of up to 13 years may be imposed if the theft and subsequent driving led to a death.

Other potential penalties for this crime include:

  • Summary convictions may result in a six month jail sentence and a £5,000 fine.
  • A 12 month driving ban
  • Between 3 and 11 points on the driver's licence.

This whole thread does your head in. So I can overtake a couple of cars (usually Honda Jizzes with blind high-liability drivers doing 40mph in a 60) at 'x' mph, dash cam catches it and reports it. Somebody decides it's 'dangerous' driving and I am getting a little court visit. But I can smash somebody up on their driveway, steal their motor and just get away with it. I also read the other day that they can enforce speeding convictions from dash cams based on FPS, They don't do it generally, because it's too much work....... at the moment

People are idiots. I'm going to get front and rear. The only slight worry is the potential state of the battery a while afterwards.

Front and Rear is the option to go for. Battery drain has not been a problem for me when the car was left alone for 2 weeks, in parking mode. Also, some have intelligence built into them to shut themselves or enter sleep mode, by monitoring the battery voltage level is getting low.

I-Volt battery is the way to go.

Charges while on the move, takes the strain off the car battery completely.

That's good to know, thanks. It'll hopefully never be needed but with the amount of rounded doorhandles there are about, you can't be too careful.

That looks like a good idea. I've seen an American review of dashcams and he had a couple of these types of battery in his car. They were very expensive, which made me question whether I would get one, but your suggestion is very reasonably priced, thanks.

I've got the BlackVue front and rear setup. I bought it because every day on the way to work someone would decide my lane was better than there's when coming the other way.

I caught a near-death experience and a few interesting thing but I've actually had to use it to exonerate myself twice! Local Facebook warriors whinging about me nearly killing them. Half the village with their pitch forks out until I post footage and the thread magically disappears.

I do fear it will one day help the po-po with their enquiries on me.

How you getting on the the 8Y Rs3 now mate ? I know you wasn't sure a while back

Same really, neither love it nor hate it.

Could quite happily sell it now and not miss it lol.

Will probably change to full on hate it when Audi have had a go at changing the rack though.

Was told yesterday that even changing the rack doesn’t guarantee the clicking won’t return, as there’s no superseded part no on the steering rack, so no design change.

Met a friend the other day with a 20 plate M5, I was telling him the RS3 is too quiet, he said the M5 was as well due to the particluate filters, he was talking bo**ox, the M5 sounded really well

Don't you think that all these Police Programmes do nothing but Glorify the Police, A smoke & Mirrors marketing exercise that takes away the reality of the Lazy, Racist & Misogynistic Police Forces that we actually have in reality to "protect & serve us" ?
