The glow plug light has just started flashing on my 2.5 tdi whilst the car is running. I take it this is like an engine management light?

The engine is still running very smooth and i havn't really noticed any reduction in power. Will a vag com scan identify why the light is flashing?????

I have recently had the car seviced if this is of any help.

She starting ok mate? Taking longer for the glow pulg light to go off when you switch on the ignition?

Still starts fine and no difference to the length of time the light stays on prior to starting.

Brake light bulb may be blown
Funny you should say that but the brake light bulb did blow the other day but the glowplug light started flashing since the bulb was replaced

BTW, the glowplug light doesn't start flashing until the engine has been running for about 30 secs

Perhaps it takes 30 secs for you to press the brake for the first time? :p

As people have said, vagcom time.
Yep, i think your right. I will try and get it done tomorrow

^^^ The brake lamp switch is more than just a component for activating the brake lamps, or the autocheck system (where fitted) upon start up.

Both the clutch and brake pedal switches are tied into the engine management, and fuelling / enrichment. Failure of either of these switches, particularly the brake one on diesel models will activate the glow plug lamp.

Will a vagcom scan identify if this is the problem
cheers

if it doesnt appear in the fault code list, one of the measuring channels shows the current position of the brake and clutch switches as seen by the ECU.

You can compare these with the actual positions and see which is faulty.

The switch might just need adjusted

Well i went to my local vag specialist this morning and they suggested that i replace the brake pedal switch. So off i went fitted a new switch but the light still flashed.

Then i thought check the fuses!

And guess what that's all it was

There will be a reason the fuse went though.

Just keep an eye on everything :icon_thumright:

Sorry to bring this back up.

I'm having the same issue with my 06 A4 Tdi
My wifes called me twice in the last week or so on her journey to and from work saying this orange curly light is flashing on the dash.
The cars performance is in no way affected. After googling around the most common cause seems to be a faulty brake light switch.

I'll have get it tested with a vagcom lead, hopefully nothing too costly.

Thanks

Hi, this is my first post here.

After searching around today looking for some pointers, I stumbled across this thread. Anyway, I have just recently experienced similar issues to the ones mentioned above with regards to the glow plug indicator lamp flashing while driving (it would start flashing after 30 seconds or so, regardless of whether the brake pedal was pressed or not).

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced the same as this, but while the glow plug indicator lamp started flashing today, the ESP light also came on, and wouldn't go off, not even if I turned the engine off, and then back on again, as some have suggested.

I followed the advice posted by a couple of people here with regards to the fuses, they all seemed ok, so on to the brake lights. Low and behold, both rear brake lights were broken (the central LED on the tail gate was working fine).

Quick trip to Halford to buy some replacement bulbs, fitted in minutes, and bingo, both warning lights have gone off completely, and the ESP button now works fine too.

My Audi is an 03 1.9TDI 130 Avant Sport (estate) if that helps?

Thanks for the advice by the way, it was a great help today! :salute:

Brake light bulb may be blown

Driving down the motorway and engine management light came on and the glow/coil light. Read your post and thought you were joking but checked my brake lights and they wern't working! Changed for £6.20 including fitting and hey presto...all lights on dashboard now out! Thanks for your advice, probably saved me a fortune

mine just did the same but the buld has been blown for a week but it just decided to come on tonight, anyway changed both bulbs tonight so need to see how it goes tomorrow now,
now i have the issure of reversing lights staying on new switch sat in the kitchen so that will be changed this week

Hi all i am new to this post and just owned my dream car an Audi A4 2.0 TDI SE S-Line REG IN Jan 2008 and i have noticed on some occasions my glow light in the dash appears with loss of power (meaning its not very responses as other times and can still drive).

To get rid of the light i have to park up switch off the car and on again its back to normal with full power and response. Would anyone know why this is and the cause of this. Early this year i received a letter from Audi regarding a recall which my father took in and they checked the injectors and said its fine, should i of had changed them or just left them.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi there Vik I would get your car put on to vcds and have it scanned.
I have had the glow plug light flash on 2 different cars. on my old Passat it gave me a fualt code that lead me to a vlave in the pump on my wife's sharan it was the brake light switch.

where about are you? maybe theres a local member that could scan your car for you.

James many thanks for replying. I am originally from the UK London near Harrow but currently working abroad in Stockholm, Sweden.

I brought this motor from Car Giant in Sept 2012 after many years of wanting to own an Audi i finally got my dream car but the experience hasn't turned out to be good so far. I have this light come on many times when i was driving to Europe from London where i had to pull over and switch off and on and back to normal.

I got this light today twice within few mins but is fine now randomly it will come on. I have done some research and some say brake light switch but finding it hard to believe how this has anything to do with the light which comes on my dash. Some say ECU BOX, Glow plug or most the EGR part.

I am clueless. ANy help be great.

Great thread:) £1.79 for new bulb. Job done. Thanks for the advice would of never suspected a bulb out to cause this!
