    Hi guys,

Was looking at getting this installed but wasn't sure who to go with for installation.

Is anyone from or near Halifax West Yorkshire had it fitted or know of a decent supplier?

    Cheers,

Contact Marc for the ghost, he can come out to your house and fit it for you.

Call or email Autowatch directly and ask them to recommend a local approved installer - best way.

Mark at SAS is an approved installer.

Fitted mine and seemed a decent enough chap.

    Plus he comes to you.

    20mins.

Price was an offer at the time from another owners forum.

    It normally retails at £399

    Drop him an email.

I was looking to get Ghost installed recently and called in at a local vehicle alarm and auto elec specialist - they showed me that Ghost is really easy to bypass - I won't post how on here, but it took about 10 seconds for them to demo to me. Needless to say I'm not getting it installed - I'm going for Clifford Blackjax instead - similar immobiliser/anti hijack device, but seems like much harder to get around.

Short of finding it and cutting off power to the ghost I don’t see how it could be bypassed?

Blackjax is old tech as has been discussed on here previously.

If it’s the same as the YouTube video then it’s not applicable to newer cars.

It wasn't the same as the youtube videos I've seen where they just keep trying until eventually the car starts - it was a repeatable sequence of events that would be easily carried out by a would-be thief. I was quite surprised, as I thought Ghost had good reviews etc. Maybe it was because it had an older version of Ghost installed on the vehicle in question, or maybe something specific about that vehicle that made it behave this way, I'm not sure. They were removing it from the vehicle they used to demo the work-around and replacing with blackjax 5 I think.

Realistically I think any device like this can be bypassed, but it's about making it as hard as possible for a thief to steal your car. I dare say a thief is interested in a quick in-and-out steal, not one where they'd have to faff about with locating an anti-theft device like this and then working out how to disable it. I would think that as soon as the engine doesn't start they would run off and find an easier steal.

Not applicable to the RS as far as I know, but I know people who's ghost system allows the car to start but shuts the engine down before you are able to put it in gear, the demonstrator could have been set up like this without an understanding of the system? or even they could be using this example to try and push Blackjax onto people, which as @AudiNutta said, is old tech.

I agree - it's all about making it as hard / time consuming as possible for any thief - does anybody have any experience with other immobilisers? Are there any other recommendations?
BTW the Ghost work-around I saw didn't involve finding the unit - it was quick and easy, no knowledge of the vehicle or install needed - it was a bit too easy!

I can't see how this is possible either + if true why aren't we hearing about ghost cars getting nicked.

I don't want to post what I was shown for obvious reasons - as I said, perhaps it was some vehicle specific situation and the majority of installs don't do this, I'm not sure, but I don't want to intall Ghost myself now!

Are there any other suggestions on alternative products? I'm not sure what to install on my new car!

Might as well just say how. If it's not applicable then it doesn't matter. If it is useless, then best for people to know so they can get a refund and alternative protection.

Sorry, but the Ghost bypass is a load of rubbish. The people that showed you that are clearly on commission or resellers of the Clifford stuff. That's poor underhand sales tactics and you should always be wary of someone trashing a product to try and sell you another one. Always treat it with suspicion.

I have the ghost on my RS3, so why don;t you PM me what they did, i'll go outside and try it, and if if bypasses i'll let you know. I'd be willing to bet it doesn't though.....

As another poster said, you should really tell one of us so we can all complain and get refunds if so. However, i'm still sure it won't bypass it!

OK, so I have a few private conversations going now so if people try the workaround I saw they can report back.

I hope this is total nonsense and it turns out that it was just something to do with the install or the vehicle... we should know soon.

+1, regardless of how simple / difficult it is... it’s not good practice to advertise it on a public forum because fingers crossed the thick slimy gits that try to get their paws on our pride and joy won’t have a clue, we don’t need to contribute to their wasted little minds.

Good thing about the Clifford is the car can be driven away then stops away from you, but it can be a pain sometimes. I’ve had full Clifford on all my GTR’s for over 18 years and it always worked well.
I’ll prob be getting one on mine soon but I wish it had a option for one key fob that let you start it without putting code in every time, so you can put it in your wallet!

The lack of this feature is what has put me off from installing Ghost. These thieves seem to have no fear, if the car wont start, they will either come into the house and demand a code, or tow the car. There are enough examples of this happening now.

Ghost in a public car park is great, but it does add an additional risk if the theft is happening outside your home.

Whether it proved that the method you’ve seen can or can’t get round the ghost system... it’s a good thing you’ve brought it to the forum and people are going to have a go... brings others knowledges and can give you the answer to what you want, and will go some what to prove if ghost is or isn’t the way to go :icon thumright:

Good news Sean, hope this is the case with others on here that are checking.

I'll call back into the car security place tomorrow and see if I can understand why the car they showed me behaved the way it did.

Would be good to understand why.

Sorry if I've caused any stress over this for everyone with ghost fitted!

I'll report back if I find out any more.

    Cheers, Pete.

I would like to try on mine please...

I still think it is a sales tactic, or lack of understanding though, as I said, some systems are set up to let the car start, but you could not put it in gear or drive without the engine dying.

PM'd with instructions - although from the response Sean got it sounds like an install issue on the car I saw.
