Getting rid of the 'service spanner'

Can anyone tell me how to remove the service warning indicator ? My recently acquired 2011 S3 Quattro was serviced by my regular guy - a really good auto technician who has looked after my cars for years. He went through the normal procedure to turn the warning off - the 'spanner' sign disappeared but then came back on again. He had several goes but the same thing happened. As the vehicle has only been serviced by an Audi Main Dealer before he wondered if it has some kind of computer lock on it ?
