Gear knob

Hi all. Has anyone ever changed the gear knob on an A4 B8?
The chrome at the top of mine is peeing off, don't know whether to replace with the same or go for a different one.

Auto should just pull off when in netral manual unscrews.
Buy a new one and see how it comes.

Is it manual or auto. I replaced the gear knob and gator on my B8 to match the seats which had been changed before I bought the car. You can see in the pictures the knob is held on with a clip.

What's the chrome doing? Hope mine never does this.
