Gear knob chrome

Hi
does anyone have any suggestions as what to do with the gear selection plate on top of my gear stick,
whats happening is the chrome is starting to peel off the top and its getting quite sharp and my wife is moaning aboat it also its going to start looking scruffy and thats no good ,
problem is audi want £75 plus vat for a replacement as it comes complete with the gaiter and the aluminium sleeve below the knob which i dont need
any help suggestion greatfully recieved

I had the same problem, it was getting painful so just stuck a pool ball on for now

im sure this has already been covered but as im here how does the original knob come off without wrecking it ?

Whats the usb port for in the ash tray if you dont mind me asking

It's easy, just pop the gaiter/base up and lift it over the knob, you'll then see a clip which holds the gaiter to the knob, remove it and the knob pops off.
