gap by my hand brake!?

This may sound like a funny question....
As you look at the handbrake from above, to the right of it is a rectangular space. It looks as tho something clips into it?
It may be nothing but i think it looks a bit pants!
Its on an s3 by the way.

i think a little rubber liner sits in that gap,its just for putting pens etc in it,ive never used any of those little gaps around the gear nob.lol
