My front passenger wheel is on its way out and causing a nice whirring noise. Does anybody know who makes the Genuine Audi wheel bearings? Going offline from older threads it’s possibly “FAG” alternatively has anybody purchased a genuine wheel bearing recently for a rough idea on price?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure who the OEM is but look at SKF bearings. They are possibly the best on the market. Euro car parts are doing them for £125 each.

Vag use several different manufacturers for the wheel bearings.
SKF, FAG and NSK.
Not just one supplier.

Check how much is the genuine part, you may be pleasantly surprised (not always the case)...
When i had to change it turned out it was similar price to aftermarket...

Genuine one will still be made by fag, snr, skf anyway mate. May as well save yourself some money. I got mine from eurocarparts, skf ones, no issues at all

I would be doing 2.
If one has gone, the other won't be far behind.

This ^

My job is making hub bearings.
We don't make these for the B8 in England no more.
But do on the continent for after market.
When we supply bearings, they are fitted in the factory all together.
Replacing one does not make sense

Get one in a carrier though. So much easier

Just checking before ordering, are the front bearings on the 2.0 TDi 170 4 bolt or 3 bolt? The reason I’m asking is the mechanic who is fitting them vaguely remembers the last one he did was possibly 3 bolt? Going off the usual car part websites using my reg number they all come back as 4 bolt??

3 bolt are VW, MQB fitment,
Wouldn't fit anyway.
There are a few variants similar used on other VAG stuff that look similar to the B8 but are not, they all have the flange, or hub carrier, attached, ready pressed in because that's how there made.
The B8 bearing has a larger centre bore.

The image above of the bearing is what you normally get.
You can get them with a separate hub carrier as suggested, that saves the faff of pressing them out then in, but most just come like that, and you reuse the hub carrier you have already
