Wife bought an A1 in January. Car just out of warranty in April but got an extended warranty as bought from an Audi dealership. Car just had its first MOT.

Driving to work this morning and she heard a loud "bang" and then a "twanging" sound. Left part of the front coil spring on the road. Audi Tech AA assistance guy called out and confirmed broken coil spring, a clean break - "quite a common fault on these cars" he said. o_O

Said more than likely due to going over speed bumps he said (but we dont have any speed bumps near us).
Wife said that car has only done 7000 miles !
Anyway, on its way to dealership to get looked at now - though Audi Tech guy says they will more than likely only replace the broken spring and not both ??

Is this really a common fault at this age? Should we be pushing Audi for some answers here ??

Just a little update. Audi have checked all the springs and there is no sign of any fatigue. They have therefore put it down to a "manufacturing defect". Car will be in for a couple of days - in the meantime, wife has a new S3 Quattro to be driving around in! :D

Well, after just under 4 years the same thing has happened again - same spring too!

RAC chap who recovered her again said "I get called to a lot of these".
What is it with these springs on A1's?
