Despite my constant attempts to park as far away from everyone else in car parks, sadly someone decided to bump my rear bumper and leave the scene without leaving their details behind. Doesn't look like I'll be able to get CCTV either which means unless it will cost a fortune I'm going to have to try and sort it myself :sob:

Does anyone know the Audi part number for the aluminium strip that runs across the diffuser? It's snapped in several places and will need replacing. Hoping I can get away with a smart repair on the paint damage.

It's not the end of the world but I'm pretty crestfallen. Seems most don't have an ounce of integrity these days.

TIA

It’s sad to hear this. Some people shouldn’t be on the road.
Looking at the damage there’s no way they didn’t realise they made contact even if it’s a towbar they would feel something.
Anyway. I would say the damage might be beyond smart repair. Last time I had damage on back bumper I got a quote to paint the whole back bumper and it was around £200-250 on a glacier white car so wasn’t terribly expensive. The plastic trim might be able to be plastic welded and then painted if it’s an expensive part. Have seen some amazing work with plastic welding on older cars.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did wonder if it would be beyond a smart repair. Will be visiting a bodyshop tomorrow to see what the damage is.
Unfortunately the trim that is broken feels like its actually metal - aluminium with a plastic film on top to give it the matte effect.

Amazes me how people can’t park behind someone with out hitting them. I see people open there doors against others cars every time I go shopping. I now park near the bottom and right on a corner spot as close to the line as possible. Even with 2 kids and the right to use a child bay I’d rather drop her at the doors then go park and meet her inside. Even if it means I get soaked

Deepest sympathy. I would have been livid.

I have to say that I am not a fan of so-called smart repairs. A while back someone reversed into my wife’s car, creating more damage than on your car. I found a respected repair specialist who did an invisible repair to the plastic bumper, and after explaining that it was not an insurance job we did a deal for £200 cash.

Proves people don’t care. Sat in a working bay and some ***** in a ds3 pulls up and opens his car door onto my car. Hit it that hard it moved the car I get out and tell him he’s just hit my car. Plays dumb like he didn’t hear or feel it. Luckily doesn’t seem to have done any damage as the cars getting handed in at 10am.

I was fuming. I've only had bad experiences with having bodywork repaired so far. The last time something like this happened was to my old silver fiesta. The bodyshop used yellow primer and sprayed silver over it. As soon as any sun hit the area it turned gold. Would have been a nice two tone paint job if it was all over the car...

Thanks, great idea! I appreciate the help.

Very lucky it didn't do damage, you can be sure they would have found it and penalised you for it when you hand it in if it had! Can't understand people at all. Someone noticed my bumper at work and their comment was "well that's what you get for having a nice car".....
Like you I always pick an end bay where available, otherwise I head for the least populated area of the carpark with two spaces either side if possible. No kids yet so I don't use child bays, but not sure I'd feel any safer in those either.

The reason I don’t use them is because everyone walks through them with trollys instead of using the paths.
