Mine is on it's way back as we speak. I emailed the service desk a couple of months ago to ask about a price and got the following
QUOTE AS REQUEATED:

LABOUR CHARGE - £136.00+VAT

PARTS - OIL FILTER £4.70+VAT
POLLEN FILTER £17.55+VAT
SUMP PLUG £0.82+VAT
SCREEN WASH £2.07+VAT
SPRAY MAIN £2.30+VAT
ENGINE OIL £49.05+VAT

TOTAL - £249.68 ALL INC PART, LABOUTR AND VAT

I got a phone call 10 minutes ago to say it's all done, £277.

"But I was quoted £240"
"Ok, we'll do it for £240, the difference was for the labour time for the 20k extras"

Moral of the story.....

£240!!!

Not to brag but I got mine done for £150 in Dundee Audi. Man things must be expensive down your way.

As I have a deal with my leasing company that includes services... will all of that be free to me? (and yes I know I've kinda already paid for it)

Hmmm...

My 1st was £340 inc vat at 18k. I tried to complain but was told "well sir its a very modern and complicated vehicle blah blah..."

My 1st AVS service at 19k was £184.24. This included coding out the auto door locking.

Where did you go? Mine was done at 18k in Bolton for £210. Lancaster Audi wanted £240 or so

Where was that??

I got quoted £186 from Norwich for my A3's first service and just got charged £320 for the 2nd service on the A6. £340 is criminal!!

Hitchin Audi wanted £320 for the first service...so I took it 30 miles up the A1 and got it done at another Audi dealer for £179!

I just had mine done today at Aylesbury - it's an HSBC lease car but they originally made the invoice out to me and it was for £280inc VAT

Could you just repeat that Gizze? - my local dealer wants £340 for 1st service - I got a cousin in Norwich so it looks like I'll be paying him a visit in the new year...

That was at Robinsons, Norwich.

However when getting a service price for the Cabriolet they were around £400 and I called a couple of local dealers and one was under £300, can't remeber if it was Kings Lynn, Lowerstoft, Bury St. Edmunds or Cambridge but it must have been one of those.
Well worth calling round as there seems to be big differences in labour charges.

I took the A6 in yesterday for 2nd service plus I had brake fluid changed as that would be due in 3 months anyway and I got them to programme the car so I got nav directions back in the DIS and to make sure I can plug a bluetooth unit back in and it will recognise it, and that came to £372.

I've just had the same with Lancaster Audi on Friday. I had a go at the service manager about it, and they dropped the price down to my quoted figure. I got a call from some woman yesterday enquiring wether or not I was happy with the service at Lancaster, and told her the story too. She said it will go in the report and gets emailed to HQ.

Had my first service at Leicester Audi today: £205 and they gave me an A4 DTM to knock about in all morning as well as replacing my bottle of oil in the boot for free!!

you're friggin joking? They're part of Harwoods as well (same as Portsmouth)

Is yours DSG? Get them to email you a quote with the break down on it and I'll compare it to the Pompey quote.

It was at Smith Knight Fay in Stockport. I also had to get a taxi home and back to pick up the car (you need to book 1 month in advance to get a courtesy car?!?)

of the top of my head:

2 hours labour at £74.95 per hour (£149.90)
5 litres of long life oil at £14.95 per litre (£74.95)
filters and other non descript bits (£40 ish)
£19 for a new number plate bulb (fitted)!!!!

all + VAT

Never thought to question it because i knew audi were a rip off for servicing.

The time given by Audi for the 1st AVS service is 1.10 hours. If they are charging you for 2 hours they are over-charging.

This is a breakdown of cost for my recent 1st AVS servive at 19k.

Labour 114.40 (including recoding door locking)
screen wash 3.12
oil filter 4.70
filter 8.69
plug 0.90
long life oil 24.99
total 156.80
vat 27.44
total 184.24

I could be sarcastic and say look at my sig but I wont...

Yes my cars DSG same as yours. Portsmouth Audi is part of another group isn't it?

I'll email them and get them to break the quote down for me.

They should've offered to give you a lift home. They do offer a service where they collect your car from work/home, but I don't trust them driving it. It's bad enough that they take it for a "test" drive.

get this. just called West London Audi

A3 2.0 TDi DSG
'420 including VAT and parts'

*gulped and had words*

just 'awaiting call back to see what they can do' after mentioning the prices on this thread..

and then:
"must be the labour rate"

to...

'we can do it for 320 but that's the lowest we can do'

they're picking it up and delivering it back cleaned etc etc but - sheesh....

That's what happens when you live in the big smoke, everything is dearer.

Have a day out in rural Cambridgeshire and get it done for £184.

Which dealer was this? Our Sportback came from Hitchin, and if my first service is going to cost £320, I'm off elsewhere!

Vindis Audi at Huntingdon. Telephone 01480 454545.

My was serviced on 21 September 2005 and the cost was £184.

David - how did you get on with vindis in huntingdon? I'm using Bedford audi at the moment and they're been good so far

I bought my first VW from Birch's Garage in Cambridge in 1976 and used them for all my new VWs and Audis and for all servicing. They then become a VW only dealer and were then taken over by Vindis. I bought my first Audi A3 from Vindis when they were in St Ives in 1998 and have used them for all my subsequent A3s (5 in all) and for all my servicing work and have always been very pleased with both the Sales and Service sides of the company. I still deal with the same salesman as I did for my first A3.

I used to work in Bedford and several of my colleagues had Audis and used Bedford Audi and they were always pleased with the service they got from them

thanks David, so far Bedford have impressed, the car was bought from Whetstone in London but these guys are much closer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

will suggest Vindis to my folks though, they leave nearer Huntingdon and are considering an a3 at the moment

Dave R, thanks for the recommendation. I shall definitely be giving them a call when the car tells me it needs some attention!

£420 is ridiculous, I understood on here that the 1st service was meant to take 1.1hrs.

I wonder if Audi UK know their prices seem to range from about £180 to £420 for the same service?

I think this rant has been here before.

I checked out all the dealers within about 50 miles of me and the price varied by about £100 between them.

Go figure.

Yep - you've got to ring round for the best deal.

I also took David R advise and took the car to Huntingdon. After my recent experiences with Hitchin ( where I also got the car from) I can safely say Vindis Audi in Huntingdon will be getting my business from now on.

Just to add for future reference Hitchin Audi have a Labour rate of £90 per hour.

Dave R

Can you tell me where you found the service time for the A3. I've phone 2 dealers and they say they've never heard of that.

They said the standard time for ALL A3's is 1.9 hours!

I will have a look at my service sheet when I get home if that will help, as I got my car done at the same place as David.

Yes no problem.

If you go to the Audi UK web-site at www.audi.co.uk

On the right hand sidebar click Business Sales - then again on the RH side Fleet Data and Policies - then in the centre Fleet Data. On the LH side Service Maintenance and Repair Data. Choose the A3. This downloads a spreadsheet. Click the 'I have read...' button - choose the appropiate model - in my case 2.0 TDI BKD 140PS Auto.

Near the top of the spreadsheet, under Variable / Display the Labour hours are given as 1.10. For the 40K service the hours are given as 1.60.

If my memory serves me right, the service time for the previous 8L model may have been 1.9 hours but one of Audi's aims was to reduced the service time for the new 8P model.

I noticed a local Audi specialist garage was advertising they can now service cars that are still under warranty, without Audi being able to bitch.
If it were my car,I'd probably use them.
Less than 2 minutes drive from my house, rather than battling across town.

As long as they use genuine parts, the warranty can't be affected (I think this is law now), but things like the free Audi Assist for x years if you get it serviced by a main dealer can. I stand to be corrected, but restrictive practice law basically stopped dealers tying in main dealer servicing to warranties.

They don't even have to be genuine parts.

As long as they comply with the relevant specification, they can be any ones parts.

As you say, it can't affect your statutory rights - i.e. 1 year guarantee minimum. But extras like extended warranties, audi assist etc may be affected. (and re-sale value!)
