Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, I've just bought my first Audi, joined this forum and wanted to say hello.

Edit: Sorry for the long post!

I previously owned a '59 Seat Leon FR 2.0 TSI DSG, remapped to around 253bhp from 208 standard, with a stage 1 Bluefin purchased by the previous owner, and I eventually for a resonator delete about a year ago. Owned it for almost 6 years and took it from 33k to 65k miles. Was top spec and a great car with relatively few problems, but just cost me £865 after 2 injectors went a couple of weeks ago. I was already thinking of trading it in and that was the final shove. It could just see the Turbo going next, or the DSG which would shudder in 1st after an hour or so of driving and make it a potential write off.
Was sad to see it go tbh, but anyway, time for something new. Didn't want to lash out on something too expensive as I'm still saving for a house so instead was looking around the 15k mark given a hopeful £2.5-£3k part ex.

So, picked up a 12 plate S3 Black Edition DSG, with only 26k miles, 1 previous owner and a FSH with Audi and/or German Auto Specialist garages. Cambelt done at 21k in 2017 including water pump. Had been looking on AT for a few weeks when I suddenly find this, listed at what is an absolute bargain at £13450, albeit 250+ miles away. Agreed a decent part ex, and after doing a bunch of in depth vehicle lookups and history checks at work (I'm fortunate to have access to such systems), immediately paid the £500 deposit and arranged to collect it on the weekend.
Knew immediately once I inspected it and had drive that it was in amazing condition. Came with 4 brand new Pirelli P-Zero tyres, has just had a comprehsive service Inc MOT, includes what appears to be a decent 6 month warranty upto £2500. Was a little dirty but otherwise an absolute no brainer.

Done about 400 miles in it and am halfway through my second tank of fuel and am finding any excuse go and drive it. Have driven a couple of Mk7 Golf Rs a little but honestly prefer this. Only had a brief spirited drive in it thus far, but can already feel a massive difference from the FR which struggled at times with the power through the front wheels even with the best of tyres.

It's only had a brief exterior detail, but is getting a full day detail including thorough clean and decontamination, 2 stage machine polish and ceramic sealant, and major valet and leather treatment sometime next week off a friend who does professional grade detailing on the side as a hobby. Need to get a couple of paint chips sorted first but other than minor blemishes and paint swirls it's immaculate.

There's a couple of niggles if I'm honest, namely that I haven't yet been able to get Spotify playing off my phone due to the lack of BT Audio on the RNS-E, and a couple of missing features that the FR had like full radar parking sensors, cruise control, TPMS and possibly one or two others.
On the flip side, the Bose stereo is far superior, it's alot more comfortable, sounds much nicer, and is better in pretty much every other way not listed

Planning on a couple of modifications in the first instance, namely a head unit and DAB aerial upgrade, some lighting mods and some rear light tint I think. Would love any suggestions people have for other things that I could look at doing.

Will be doing a proper stage 1 and induction kit for sure, probably with a pre-cat delete, but not just yet. Switched insurance to the excellent and mod-friendly insurer Greenligh. They advised to wait a few months before applying any mods which increase the bhp, but after which I can go nuts for minimal-zero price increase. I think stage 1 to around 310bhp would be more than enough. Again, an open to suggestions

Anyway, that's enough of my rambling. Appreciate anyone taking the time to read this and for any feedback or suggestions.

Cheers

Hello @phateuk, welcome to the forum. As we always say to the new joiners who ask for advise - you better have a deep wallet as we love spending other peoples money!

It sounds like you picked up a well looked after car. Nonetheless, take a read of the Preventative Maintenance thread to make sure you’re happy with where the health updates are at. At a minimum I’d recommend you change the cam follower, oil pickup pipe and get the haldex oil and filter changed.

Audi don’t list a part for the haldex as it’s ‘life long’ but that’s not the case. The details are in the preventative maintenance thread.

As yours is 2012 you can activate TPMS and Hill Hold control via VCDS without needing any wiring or buttons. All the guides are in here.

Don’t tint the rear lights - not cool...

Good luck, keep us updated.

Pre-cat delete i'd definitely do (if you don't intend on a decat down the line). Very much worthwhile.

I have also fitted H&R ARBs + Superpro ALK which vastly improve the sub-par standard handling.

Welcome to the nut house that's a bewty all the right

Welcome
stg1 is the best option, you dont need any other hardware for it to work well but enjoy what you have for a while.

Hold back on the pre decat, pretty pointless and a lot of work on the 4WD S3. If you want to go that route wait till you can afford a decent down pipe. You will be able to get 310bhp with the pre cat. also by running the car as std you can then use a generic stg1 map.

Thats funny the indy garage I use did the pre-cat delete for £20 on my S3... can't have been that much work

£20! Wow - that’s great value if it’s all done. I’d mentioned to you in your original post that it’s DP off job which required the subframe to be dropped, so cheaper/easier to go for a new DP. However if it’s all done for £20 then that’s great!

They must have got it off without dropping the sub frame because it was done whilst in for all the initial servicing Inc. cambelt etc. No issues mentioned when I collected car.

Then last week it had H&R ARBs fitted and when I collected they said some bolt were cross threaded and others snapped when they were dropping the subframe. And the fact the subframe needing dropping for the ARB change was mentioned when I dropped it off.

Welcome @phateuk , a couple off simple retrofits for the interior if not already done ,( ashtray delete, cig lighter to the Flap cig lighter, and the creme de la crème is the Q3 climate control ) iirc you'll get a few part numbers from @samuelh_888 build plus if you search on here for Q3 climate control you will find out how to do it too.

I would love to know the flap lighter part number if anyone can find it.

I found the part number but can't find it for sale in this country. Coming up $120! That can't be right surely
