So I've had my s4 frem new about 15 months and noticed a slight knock at very low speeds through a town centre. I booked in with Audi for them to check and they found it was in need of a new shock absorber under warranty (phew). They ordered the part and it went in yesterday and was going to be done in one day but, half way through the day I get a phone call they need to recalibrate the matrix headlights and front camera system. "Oh and the nearest machine we have to do this is 65 miles away! and we need your permission to drive it over there!" I'm just thinking that how many of these cars will be able to be worked on by any normal mechanic as the car gets older?! I can't see them having this equipment

Wow - maybe ask them to see if there is a local windscreen fitter with those capabilities, as many are being fitted with those facilities to streamline windscreen replacements and are usually manufacturer approved equipment.

Weird how shock replacements require that? Surely they should have known ahead of time, unless they screwed something else up?

Sadly this has been so for quite a while now to the point that even the dealership's technicians don't know how they work. I wonder if, after the work on the suspension, they have been advised by Audi, as a precaution, to carry out the calibration...

I'd be telling them to put it on a trailer rather than let them drive it tbh.
Poor show really. I'm sure they'll need the equipment many times in the future so why haven't they got it?
    Hmmm.

I certainly hope it was just a precaution but I'll have to ask when I go in today if she's finished!

I wish I had requested a trailer tbh I was at work so was rushed on the phone at the time unfortunately.

The lady said they were looking to get there own machine eventually.

Tbh if it hadn't of been warranty work I'd have much preferred to take it to an independent specialist I find them Alot more knowledgeable.

Can't answer that myself, maybe it is just a cost the dealership doesn't wish to bear...

Wow just had a phone call to say it won't be ready today so won't be ready until Tuesday! To say I'm p****d is an understatement. I thought mine would be priority this morning, as it should have been finished yesterday but apparently not!

On the last service they noted that I had really bad wear on the inside of one of the front tyres. They advised I change the tyre (which I did) and have the alignment checked, including re-calibration of the camera for about £300 ... which I declined. I got the alignment checked elsewhere for about £100. I don't have matix headlights - just camera for pre-sense.

But I understand that a lot of the alignment machines will flag up to the operator that the camera MUST be re-aligned as well following a basic alignment. These systems are making some basic maintenance jobs very complicated and expensive indeed.

I had my front wheels tracking realigned, only out a tad, ut no issues with the camera. I believe if it is out presense flags up a fault...
