faulty throttle valve

Hi guys
can anyone shed any light on this,my car is a 53 plate 2.5 tdi 163hp with the engine management light on,ive taken it to my local Bosch agent who tells me the fault code is 4c67 which apparently is a throttle valve,my question is this, can this valve be taken apart for a clean up, as my garage reckons the motor is sticky, but fortunately its stuck in the open position which asks the question, why have this valve, what does it do, any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

TDIs don't have throttle valves.
VAG-specific scanners don't output fault codes in hexadecimal.
WTF does "53 plate" mean? I know you Brits are fond of this, but nobody who lives anywhere except on your island understands it.

Thanks for the info
Might just take this motorised intake flap apart,im curious to see what has gone wrong with it. Worst case is £200 for a replacement.All connections etc have been checked .
