Fan style washers to replace twin jet washers

I know this topic has been covered before, but having searched and read through a large number of those threads I never really got to the bottom of what would and wouldn't fit the A3 8P platform.

However, I did do a lot of part number searching and seeing what info I could find, and eventually I discovered that there was a good chance that the fan style washers from a VW Tiguan could fit, so I took a gamble and can confirm that they fit and work fine.

The part number for NON heated Fan style washers are: 50955985C9B9
These are OEM quality and far more robust than ebay china knock offs (trust me I tried them first, they broke).

In the past I tired the china versions and the plastic surround broke, however the heated fan inserts were detachable and so I saved them in case I was unable to find a non heated OEM washer and was able to swap them over. Luckily this turned out to be the case, so the photos below show the OEM washer with a china heated fan inserted. The original Audi 2 jet washer is included for comparison.

I hope this helps someone wanting to improve their screen washers.

Any chance of a vid while they are working??

Definitely the Passat ones - I have the heated version on mine. Some cars need a shim to fit but mine didn’t - MY2011. Only problem is in windy conditions it sprays everywhere.

I'll try and get photos and videos sorted today and upload them at some point over the weekend.
The part number is correct, here is a link to the ones I bought:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
On some of these you need to buy a L&R individually, but as far as I could tell there is only one part number to fit both sides, and I have no reason to think that isn't the case as both of mine work perfectly.

couple vids on youtube, quite a nice improvement

really cool mod, didnt even think about this. tbh, ive had the car since feb and havent noticed, for all i know i could have the mist style!

would agree with you on the chinese copies. did a conversion on my old mg tf a few years ago, could use mist jets from a peugeot/citreon model, the chinese versions were terrible while the genuines actually worked.

I did take a video today to upload, but the videos above do a great job of showing how they work.
I did test them at motorway speeds today and they have no problem covering the windscreen without being blown around.

Hope they can help you out.
I have found with mine (with heated elements) that the passenger side is an extremely tight fit due to the lack of wire on the connector.
As mine both plug in on the same side, the drivers side has plenty of wire available but the passenger side doesn't.
You may find the same, or you may not be able to get them at all.

Thanks for the info, I’m not overly bothered if I can’t get any, nice little mod if I can

To be honest I wasn't bothered about having heated washers, I am happy to put in higher strength screen wash in the winter anyway.
I just happened to have the spare parts lying around so I fitted them. I don't even know if they work yet as I have not had the car during a cold spell, and don't expect to need to test the new ones for several months.

if you buy a cheap chinese copy you will find that the clips designed to hold them in place will snap off, and you will either have to replace them with a better quality set, or find a way to bodge them.
I learnt this the hard way.

How did yours end up snapping off? Was it when you fitted them or at a later date? I only ask as I just fitted the Chinese ones to mine and they seemed really good quality and clicked into place solidly with no issues and seem nice and firm in there so not sure how they would break. I'm wondering if its because yours is pre-facelift so a slightly different fitment?

To add my experience... I bought genuine ones from a VW dealer and one of the clips snapped off while trying to install one, so I would say there isn't necessarily much/any difference between real and fake. Incidentally I think I need the shims, as they are a bit loose. (pre-facelift 8P)

As I bought non-heated ones, not realising my existing ones were heated, I'm trying my luck with some cheapo heated ones from Hong Kong. I've seen reports that the "knock-offs" are OEM quality and are often even VW-stamped, suggesting they are probably the same item anyway. We'll see when mine arrive...

Mine are the cheapo Chinese ones and work fine, they had the VW logo but was etched out before they shipped. Can't complain for £6 delivered.

Just to add, I thought I'd give these cheap chinese ones advertised for a passat/vw a try:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Front...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

They are heated, and clipped straight in without any difficulty, literally took me 5 minutes. Best mod so far for the money and time required! Would definitely recommend.

I ordered these as well for a tenner, pretty close or same as oem quality by the looks of them, try a fit tomorrow, only difference I can see is the adjuster screw for the fan bit is a slot drive rather than oem hex drive. Def Chinese copy but it’s only spraying water so who cares

Well spurred on by this thread I bought a pair of the fan-style washer jets from eBay and thought I’d give it a try!
I also bought from Audi a pair of the spacers 8E0 955 431 mentioned on other threads posted on Audi-Sport.net as being needed on some models to allow these narrower units to fit on older cars like my 2007 model.....
No luck at all with my car though!
On the near side, the new jet won’t sit unless the wiring for the heated washer jet is really stretched and pulled and forced into place, even then though the jet won’t sit properly (even with the spacer) so before I damaged anything I just gave up....
On later models this may be a very easy swap, but on a 2007 it’s defintely a bit of a no-go I’m afraid....

@Tatey35 + @mechanic69 i am holding you 2 responsible if there S**T as i just ordered :thumbs up::superman:

All I said was they look a good match, tomorrow I’ll see if they fit and report back, I don’t mind a tenner punt to see if I can get the heated bits to work as the ones I got from Audi don’t have the heater connections, if they match the oem dimensions the cables should fit so let’s see........

Feedback on fitting

First thing, put next to the OEM versions these are spot on, hard to tell the difference.

Second thing fitting - just be gentle to protect the tabs holding it in, feed into the hole pulling the part towards the front of the vehicle to engage the front tabs then push down the side nearest the windscreen to pop in the two rear tabs. Removal is pull the part towards the front of the car and lift the edge nearest the screen.

Third thing perfect fit and all cables connect up just fine.

Great quality part no worries fitting on facelift 8p

Regarding the shims that some cars require for good fitment (part no. 8E0955431), does anyone know of a UK online seller of them? It's not convenient for me to pick them up from the dealer.

Perhaps I’m trying to fit the spacer in the wrong location then, and my units appear to be Genuine VW albeit Chinese ones...either way though I might have another go in the Spring....it’s too cold and wet to be faffing out there with the risk of breaking something.

Fitted mine the other day and they make a difference now people who are standing passenger's side get a Spray off water rather than a Jet .less than 5mins to do

I ended up getting them from a VW dealer nearby. Something like £1 each.
