Dry tomorrow, jojo; which is why most just didn't do anything today, not wanting to get their new cars wet and dirty; tsk, kids...

Lewis was seen taking a selfies - both Blackberry and iPhone (mind the iPhone had a Blackberry sticker and vice versa) - with representatives of the SkyCity casino and Aukland police plus local Chinese, who he happened to also upset mid flight to somewhere recently, while attempting to wear as much of his sponsor Hugo Boss's attire as possible - he'll be happy to get this weekend over...

Like I say, so much more fun both before and after the race, any race...

Well inititially looked good. Drivers under pressure and making mistakes. Not so good in the latter parts. Probably not going to be the same at the next race.

First of all! >>>>:D<<<<

Secondly, no love for the new quali format, it's silly to be honest.

Roll on the race! :racer:

If you study the results nothing has really changed from a 2015 grid with the new - now to be tried that once already and never again - qualifying format as it's still a Noah's ark two by two line-up: Mercedes-Mercedes; Ferrari-Ferrari; McLaren Honda-McLaren Honda; Renault-Renault; Sauber Ferrari-Sauber Ferrari; Hass Ferrari-Hass Ferrari; and MRT Mercedes-MRT Mercedes: even the two Torro Rosso-Ferrari cars are only split by one Williams

Time to get drivers changing teams more often with 2-year maximum contracts: would love to see both Hamilton and Vettel in MRT Mercedes in 2017 :racer:

Absolutely 1:23.837 fantastic, and 50 poles.

Agreed, the new quali format is not good. Looking forward to tomorrow. :friends: <~ me and 45bvtc

Doesn't look good for the season. Will be another year of no action at the front. Old quali next race? What a load of rubbish. Bring on BTCC next weekend!

And POOR coverage from Channel 4; soooo many ****** adverts and an out-of-depth presenter who needs to be spending more time keeping-a-welcome-in-the-hillside:search:; so thank you Channel 4, if that's all you can do in the 5-hours after the chequered flag drops on qualifying then even if it is free-to-air you're welcome to it... :sadlike:

Here's an idea: swap Rosberg and Verstappen just for the next race: you'd still get the Mercs 1-2 but who'd be brave enough to put money on in what order and/or by how much... :whistle2:

That would be interesting. Verstappen would give it the beans. I'd guess there's a change of Quali 3 by the next race! No one on the track with just under 3 mins to go?? That's normally the 'seat of yer pants' part! Yes, Blue Peter presenters shouldn't be hosting a 'flagship' F1 show.

I don't even know why they decided to change quali format. It was better than the race anyway!

The problem is, they changed 2 things at once! No comms between drivers and team, and the qualifying. By doing both, the driver basically had one chance to get it right, the team couldn't call them back in to swop tyres, or do the lap later. Once you was out there, you was on your own!

Don't even know why they tinkered with the quali format? If it ain't broke...

Thats pretty lame about qual, just shows what a mess they are in when they can't even agree that something so badly wrong needs to be changed. Even if they just reverted to a traditional Q3 session it would have been a step forward.

Alonso to get a new power unit ???? Well there's a surprise after comprehensively destroying the car I would be surprised if much is useable.
Steering wheel, seat , drinks bottle etc .

What a surprise. Typical F1. Why they just won't go back to old format is beyond me. We all saw how bad it was last time. Politics like this push me away from f1 every year. Funding issue has been ongoing for many years and still no budget cap. Bernie and FIA are more worried about their own pockets rather than the show we pay to watch. Bring on April and exciting BTCC season!

Tbh I didn’t watch the new qual till sometime this week, and I quite like it.

At first it was a little confusing because they didn’t have the graphics showing the elimination countdown, but when they sorted that, it was fine.

I like you get to see more of all the teams, not just the front runners.

I think the biggest problem for the teams, was to work out if your car is in the drop zone, to get back out on track sooner!

I can see it didn’t work in Q3…. that needs to just go back to race to chequered flag.

We all know they were hoping the new qual would mix up the grid, and it didn’t work at race 1.

If it trips the big teams up and makes for a better Sunday race in Bahrain, maybe we will welcome it then?

Rosberg definately raised his game, less than 1/10 of a second in it. Hopefully Ferrari can get it off the line and get in front otherwise it looks like the Mercs will just run and hide.

Fastest in every sector on the last lap, fair play Lewis :racer:

Spooky that he keeps havin' these side impacts... Deja vu with Rosberg in Spa 2014 and with Maldonado in Valencia 2012

As Crash.net reports: "The Finn made a superb start from sixth to jump to third as the field thundered into turn one, but after going for what he felt was a viable gap, Hamilton turned in and the pair made contact.

Never Lewis's fault mind; even reversing in the pit lane: “alleged breach of Article 28.3 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, reversing in the pit lane at the end of qualifying”. Article 28.3 of the regulations states “at no time may a car be reversed in the pit lane under its own power.”

Blimey, he doesn't need to attend the event, just give him the trophy now... :search:

Just sayin' but 'man' am I gonna get some stick for this when RS3copilot finds out...

Martin Brundle said…
"Lewis left the door open but Valtteri shouldn't have walked through it, He was a day late and a dollar short walking through there"

so do we call that 50/50 ?

imo.. I just don’t think Bottas deserved a drive-through penalty

What an outstanding drive by Stoffel Vandoorne, he will be on a few teams shopping list.

Rosberg should have won that race by more than the 13 odd seconds he did by. He was the full pit straight ahead after about 5 laps.
Glad to see Manor being more competitive. Got a soft spot for them. They just need to sort their aero out and they could be giving TR, Williams and RB a fright. Sauber still looking like lost sheep. Although, TBF they let their boys race.

Overall a better race than OZ but that Quali has to go by China.

Think there will be a few driver moves next year I think. Stoffel will probably get a drive as Jenson is out of contract at the end of this year.
Wehrlein is another Verstappen , I picked him for my Fantasy F1 team as I have seen how he drove a DTM car, in one race in the wet he lapped most of the field. I am not surprised with his race performances so far.
I think he will be replacing Rosberg or Hamilton at the end of this year.
Mercedes would like a German world champion I am sure.
Verstappen might goto Ferrari or Red bull replacing Raikonnen or Kvyatt .
Grosjean might get a crack at a Ferrari seat.

But he didn't need to, why should he, engines have to go further so why stress the equipment; Lewis did the same behind the Torro Rossos in Melbourne - though that's not what he said afterwards... :search:

I'm just gonna enjoy it as it is and close me eyes in me comfort chair - with a glass of wine - as and when necessary; nothing I can do about it; add to it, or take away from it; it is what it is; get on with it...:superman:

That said we'll be switched 'ON' for the driver's conference and have the chopsticks ready for practice one - what's not to like...

Dave, if you were sitting in one of these, would you take your foot off the gas??
This is what I hate about F1 just now. Too many rules that hold back the drivers. F1 should be run at full pelt for the entire race. Running in a lesser mode to save fuel or to save a engine, ain't racing. It's preserving! This is why F1 needs to be overhauled in terms of engines and costs. It'll never happen but it would be nice to see all cars with the same engine and chassis. Aero difference and bodywork as per manufacturer. At the moment it's engineers who are running F1, not the drivers!
Time to go to a BTCC style of ownership and cost management and see who the really drivers are! I'd bet Verstappen would be at the head of the field.
Bernie was right in his interview. Last year was boring, and this year looks like it's going to be the same. The racing doesn't justify the ticket price!
Thats what makes pretty much every other race series in the world exciting.
Will I still tune in like you will, Dave? I will because I love Motorsport no matter what type!
MotoGP is great at the moment. Can't wait for the TT either.

What the 2015 Quali gave was cars on the track to the bitter end. It happened last weekend by default as the top four didn't do their best laps but it's a chance they can't take again.
