Extended warranty cost?

    Hi all,

I searched for an answer to this question but wasn't able to find a thread about it yet, perhaps because the B9 is only just coming up to the 3 year mark.

My car will be 3 years old in April and I want to extend the warranty. I'm aware that you can get a quote from https://insurewithaudi.co.uk/extended-warranty but I'm curious to know whether it works the same way as BMW and Mini whereby they send you a letter with a cheaper quote than the website provides because there's no break in warranty cover.

Has anyone received a letter from Audi Insurance with extended warranty pricing? If so, would you mind sharing the costs and how soon before the 3 year mark did the letter arrive?

I would be interested in this as well as I might be keeping my car beyond the three year cover. I would be interested too if anyone might have any warranty work done in that extended period, although this might not be the B9...

I have just noticed this, but will be interested in a few years time, because it seems it works in the same way as the BMW one that was pretty good value for money. An insurance policy with perhaps £250 excess if you are a low mileage owner/driver?

I haven't on a B9 , however back in July I did get a letter from Audi re the previous RSQ3 and no they don't make you a special offer. You can kind of test the Audi system by browsing the Audi used approved web site and finding a car that's similar to yours - engine/mileage/year that's over three years old and keying the vehicle reg into the quoting tool.

You will most likely discover two things:

    1) It's expensive - actually if you go for the top cover it's REALLY expensive
    2) When you read the small print even the most expensive cover doesn't cover much that will actually go wrong including consequential damage from a component failure.

There was a time when Audi's extended Warranty was nearly identical to the 1st 3 years cover - fully protected aside from wear and tear items. Now it's so naff that at least one Audi dealer group I know of is underwriting their own warranty scheme.

The company that takes the Direct Debit for it is called 'Lawshield', an unfortunate name perhaps? I never got to make a claim so never found out.

RS cars will always attract a significant premium. I just did a quote on a 65 plate car that's very similar to mine albeit with significantly more mileage, and the quote came out at £387/year with £100 excess for the All Component cover and <15k miles per year. That's a very decent price although I have not read the T&Cs yet.

Just spent £308 for a single year extension on my A4 as it has just hit 3; the extended AA was better at £145 for 2 years.

Thanks for confirming the Audi Assist cost. I didn't see it mentioned when I did a quote on https://insurewithaudi.co.uk/extended-warranty

Google Car Care Plan Warranty. I was referred to it from another forum in response to this same query. You pay a joining fee of £26 and then the warranty cover depends on the age of your car. I plan to follow it up when my warranty expires next September. I have grown really attached to my car and , like others, I’d like to keep it beyond the warranty period!
Part of me also wants to see how dependable or otherwise the s tronic gearbox is, but not at my own risk! VAG haters love to slag off the DSG transmission and whilst it is not perfect (as some on this forum will testify) others tell of how they are on 100,000 miles plus on the original transmission and still going strong. I want to believe in it and, so far, it’s been absolutely fine, jerkiness notwithstanding. However, I am only 17,000 miles in and I realise it is early days yet.

After taking out a warranty with Warranty Direct on a Golf 5 GTi, I would never, ever consider a third party warranty company again. Absolute waste of time and money.

Why do you think it's a better option than extending the warranty with Audi?

For a start it’s cheaper. Contributors to the other forum I mentioned speak highly of it. The website mentions no exclusions in respect of consequential damage. I too am sceptical of third party warranties, but this one seems OK at first sight. I have until September to make a choice, so rest assured I shall be continuing my market research, including a more detailed analysis of the cover provided. As a retired lawyer, I am used to understanding whys and wherefores!

Ah - I’ve just discovered a fundamental snag. The warranty is operated by the old Civil Service Motoring Association, now called ‘Boundless’. Accordingly, to join you have to be in some way associated with the Civil Service or the Public Sector. The degree of association can be rather tenuous, for example you can be a friend of a current or former Civil Service or Public Sector employee who is a Boundless member, but nevertheless you have to be able to show a link of some sort. That might be difficult for me, unless a contributor to the other forum is prepared to vouch for me.

Just as well I discovered this complication now rather than next September when I planned to look into joining.

Where you've said that others have spoken highly of it, do they specifically refer to claims they've made that have paid out?

Thanks Peter123 for posting those links. A quick review of the policy gives me confidence that a DSG gearbox failure (my biggest post-warranty fear) would be covered. See ‘What is covered’ and ‘What’s not covered’ on pages 7 and 8, bearing in mind I would opt for cover only up to 5 years old. There are further exclusions in clause 15 on page 18, but again I can see nothing untoward there. We must all form our own view on prospective insurance cover, but I would feel confident in proceeding with this product. And at £176 plus £26 joining fee, it’s considerably cheaper than an Audi extended warranty. All I shall need come September is an eligible person who will vouch for me. Peter123 - fancy a pint?

+1 I read all the paperwork and t&c's as well and was waiting for someone to agree with me. I can join because I meet two of the conditions.
    A) Used to work for the defence.
    2) Currently employed in public education.

    Thank you Peter123, much appreciated.

Hi , i am in same boat and it looks like i'll have to go with Audi . Decision to be made in the next 2 weeks .

I did notice ALA used to do a warranty but in the last 2 weeks have pulled it :3 level of cover, £50 excess and you can specify repairs to be done by the main dealers. Could take up 3 years of cover and if i remember it wasn't silly money ( could have been circa £600 for 3 years for the basic cover ). Worth checking in to see if they have something in place again ?

    Hi rasA4,
Yep - ALA , they also do Gap insurance . Which i got through them. When i looked at it it was very transparent and easy to follow - the bonus was you could specify that the repairs would be done by a main dealer . ( Other companies seem to have the information buried and it was messy to get an understanding on what was covered and what was not ).
It looks like i will be going with Audi , named component with a £100 excess for £303. I don't know if i will be missing out with not going with the All Components but as long as the major stuff is covered i think i will be fine .

My warranty isn’t due to expire until November but at this stage it’s looking like I may well keep the car for the full 4 year PCP I’m on. However whenever I go to https://insurewithaudi.co.uk/extended-warranty it doesn’t let me get a quote as it says my car is still under warranty. How are you guys getting quotes for your cars that are still under warranty? Cheers.

You have to wait until about 30 days before your warranty expires, or find a similar, older car on Autotrader/Pistonheads and use its reg number.
