Exhaust Valve Mod

Hi All,

Not sure if this has been posted before but curious whether there is a valve mod with the exhaust to keep the valves open at all RPM.

Is this done via VCDS? Or done manually with wire?

Just after a bit more noise really, I find the exhaust has a really muffled sound which sounds like a vacuum almost lol! :suspicion:

it can be done via VCDS ( i know S3 8V adaption, not sure if its the same for the S1)
i just disconnected them on the S3 though!

engine off, and they're open. so disconnect that, and when you start the engine, they won't close.

Yup.
It takes 5 minutes, go try it. Soon as you start it up, you'll hear a difference!

It's how I opted to do it on my s3.
I had an s1 prior and planned on doing it but got rid of it after a month

does it not bring up any faults with it un plugged ?

Winter is coming...
Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I'd like to make this mod to my S1 but without any errors being report via VCDS at the dealer. I think I read on Facebook that another mod is to remove the spring from a box under the rear left corner of the car - does anyone know this or the steps to take ?

Thanks

I have disconnected the connection for the valve, it's a simple clip. No warning lights on the car, however I don't know whether this will bite me in the backside when it comes to returning to the dealer?

Thanks for the reply.

So did you notice the increase in exhaust noise ? I read on here that the dealership will be able to see that it's been disconnected via their software - however if it's your car (mine is not leased) I could discuss it with them if they mention it.

I'm interested in the mod made to the actual piece of kit under the rear left of the S1 - I messaged the person from the Facebook page who posted a mini guide a while back. If he can let me know the steps i will ask if he's happy for me to share it on here.

You can unplug the valve (do it with the engine off). It will show a fault, but if you tell the dealer you've unplugged it they will know not to report it, it's not going to cause any other faults

Thanks DomH - I might do this tomorrow then, is the plug next to the control box ?

If so I will seal the plug up best I can and then zip tie it inside a waterproof bag to try and protect it. Did you notice much difference in the exhaust noise ?

Yeah it's just a plug, you have to pull the small grey tab back first as it acts as a lock for the connector

As for the sound, it sounded a little louder at idle, but the only noticeable difference in noise was in efficiency and auto mode, dynamic was the same

Ok thanks DomH

I found a post about the exhaust valve control unit on a French Audi site, some of you may have seen a post on a S1 Facebook page as well by the same author.

A friend of mine has translated it from French and I will try and give it a go this weekend if I get the chance - if it works I could post a step by step and credit the original author :)
