Just wondering if anyone has had their exhaust rattles in the facelift fixed through Audi? Wondering if they can actually fix it and whether I can actually be bothered with the hassle. Thanks

Nope, apparently it’s supposed to sound like that

Whaaat??! Reason I also ask is, we were at Audi today looking at Q3’s for my wife, they had a very similar specced Q3 around the back where customers cars sit waiting for repairs/service etc, so we had a wee nosey at the that. I noticed 3 RS3 exhausts sitting there outside looking a bit sorry for themselves, wondered if they had been replaced for ‘non rattle’ exhausts.

They might be stocking up on RS3 exhausts and trying to make one non-rattling exhaust out of a job lot by experimenting with them.

I don’t mind it so much when I’m at home but when I’m parked up in public and start the car up it’s quite embarrassing, especially when people see that it’s a brand new car that sounds like someone kicking a tin can around.

Something else that’s currently embarrassing is when I need to press the horn and it sounds like a single tone horn under water, I’ve had a few people laugh at that.

Brilliant, I’ll photocopy that explanation, blow it up big enough to put it in my rear window and use it as an excuse for why my car sounds so crap when I start it up. I was thinking of swapping my sports exhaust for an armytrix exhaust just to make it sound better, even without the start up rattle I wouldn’t consider the Audi sport exhaust as a ‘loud’ exhaust and the sound of the 5 cylinder seems a little muted

To avoid embarrassment start it in dynamic, there’s no start up rattle in that mode.

I went through all of the exhaust flap settings with vcds looking to keep the valves permanently open but I couldn’t find the option for it because it isn’t like the Golf R where they can opened by the tick of an byte, I can’t be bothered to put the car into dynamic every time I want to start it.

I have looked at the ‘fix’ video but I can’t see that working neither otherwise Audi would release a revised spring and change them all under warranty because I couldn’t see the dealer putting the old spring in a vice and modifying it, they would void the part warranty themselves by reshaping it and Audi wouldn’t cover the cost

I have unplugged my valves and there is still a rattle upon start up. It’s not as bad as it was but it’s still there for the first few minutes.

What is the easiest way to prevent the catalyst warm up phase from starting? I want to disable this feature...

I have a Milltek ready to go on the car. I thought it was something related to the turbo wastegate?

When I start my car up it sounds like the mid section of exhaust not the waste gate, that’s why I would go with the suggestion that it’s the catalyst warming up rather than the flap solenoid or waste gate but I could be wrong

Wastegate vibration and the fact the engine is heavily retarded at cold start.
Big thread on the subject on this very forum.

I’ve been told from a turbo specialist that exhaust pressure plays a part.

Mine has stopped since fitting the AVC.

I always thought there were 2 exhaust problems. The start up noise which is temporary and the ticking exhaust valve which is constant. The spring upgrade would address the latter problem.
