Exhaust pipe tips temperature

Hi everyone. Do you know how hot could be an exhaust pipe, the part after the muffler where the pipe tip is? I was going to fit custom quad tips which I was going to powder coat in gloss black. A guy at the powder coat shop told me that the coating can hold up to 170 degrees celsius. It can bubble and chip at higher temperature. Can an exhaust tip that is clamped or welded to the exhaust pipe be warmer then 170C?

Doubt it, mine were just sprayed and look fine, powder coating should be even tougher?

I would say powder coating and high temp paint would be more than strong enough for exhaust gases. Most of the heat is at the engine side and by the time it gets through the exhaust, cat, dpf, gpf, resonators it will be pretty cold at the tip.
Think of your brakes, they will get hotter than your exhaust and they are just painted or powder coated and these seems to last pretty well.

Thanks! That sounds promising :)

With diesels though when performing a regen the exhaust gas temperature must get fairly high as the internal dpf has to reach around 350c. Whether the exhaust tip get hot enough to burn anything off I am not sure..

That was my biggest concern because my car should have a GPF, I think (a post WLTP car).
