    Hi All
Just bought a 2017 S3 hatch and i'm surprised how loud the exhaust is when inside, is it normally quite loud or could the previous owner have done some mods?
I expected it to be pretty quiet under normal use and more noticeable when in dynamic mode for example.

Without hearing it it's hard to say but there should be a noticable difference when driving below 3k rpm and above as the flaps open. If this isn't apparent then it sounds like they may have made the flaps open permanently which is what I have had done. There may also have been a res delete or something similar if it is very loud...

If the same as earlier models you also have a Soundaktor fitted which pumps fake engine noise into the cabin. this can be turned down or off completely using VCDS or Obdeleven

Yeh i might have to see if there is a S3 guru in this area (darlington / Bp Auckland) who can listen to it. How do i check if the flap is permanently open?

Start the car in comfort and only the two exhaust on the inside should be open. Then switch to dynamic and you should hear a slight “click” and the exhaust tone getting deeper as well as all four exhausts being open.

This should be done in park since the valves will be closed until 3.000rpm even in Dynamic mode. Whereas in park in Dynamic mode the valves are open and closed in Comfort.

Fairly certain you have a res delete like my car. Just check underneath the car. Put your phone on a dolly or anything that can be slid/rolled. Put it on record. Set focus up manually and just move it underneath the car. Play the video back and see if you have a resonator (mini-muffler looking thing). If it looks quite obvious someone outfitted it with a pipe in between or there is no resonator to begin with (sports exhaust option) then that may be the reason it is pretty loud.

Then again how "loud" something is on a forum is completely subjective haha.

It will drone at about 3-3.75k RPM. Even when mine is in comfort mode you can faintly hear it.

Comfort/Auto/Dynamic menu for engine sound in Individual MMI setting have nothing to do with exhaust sound. That controls the Soundakator, which provides fake engine noise. S mode, controls the exhaust flaps.

I've just had the car up on ramps and it has had the resonator delete done, straight pipe section replacing the muffler.
I would prefer to have it standard so has anyone looked into the cost of adding the resonator back in?

If, you can't find a resonator from someone who has has one from a res delete. Your options are a new resonator and fitting...very expensive or buy a BCS res delete and your boomy, drony cabin sound will be gone. Believe me, I chucked a standard res delete for the BCS option for those reasons.
