Esp fault fixed free of charge from audi?

My esp light came on in my car last week and has remained on since. I phoned a local vag specialist today who is going to plug the car into vcds/vag com tomorrow to see what the fault is. He is fairly confident that the whole esp/abs pump will need replaced as this was a very common fault with my year of car (06 A3 2.0 TDI 140), so common that he said if I take the car to audi they SHOULD do the job free of charge as a good will gesture because audi & vw have admitted that the pumps in this age of car were ****. Anyone else heard of this or had it replaced free of charge?
 
my local dealer told me to **** off.

£160 for the repair kit tho so not too bad. its basically the pump minus the electronic part which you swap over from the old one. not too difficult a job I done mine in the driveway.

nothing to lose, I didnt have FSH so didnt argue too much but if you have then fire that at them. some people seem to get it done FOC but mine said if its not an official recall then jog on.
 
no harm in asking, worst case scenario they say no lol.

In reality I doubt they would fix it, may give some contribution towards the repair if you have full audi service history and below 100k miles.
Check if any recalls were made for it.

FOC is very optimistic & there are variables where goodwill is applied & now even more those variables are limited, as in it must have a full VAG service history for them to even entertain the thought of goodwill.

I have a full service history but only the first two services were done by audi, the rest have been done by a vag specialist. What year of car is yours?

when you say vag history do you mean main dealer history? As most of the work that has been done on my car has been from a vag specialist with genuine parts. Would that work in my favour?

main dealer, not specialists or independant garages.
 
They'll charge you a diagnostic fee to tell you its the same thing you already know it is too!
 
Vw did mine for free on my 2006 gti. As long as it flags as g201 fault and it has fsh (mine was specialist after 3 years) they cover full cost. Imagine audi would be the same. That was august this year btw

That's the answer I'm looking for lol. Did vw just do it like it was water off a ducks back or did you really have to push them to do it for free? I've been looking on several other forums and it is obviously a very common fault with these cars, especially from 03 to 08 models right through the vag range. Once I get the car scanned tomorrow I will hopefully know more and if my local vag specialist still recommends taking it to audi for a freebie or at least a discount on the job then I'm definitely gonna give it a try. Fingers crossed! :racer:
 
at audi prices your specialist might still be cheaper even with a discount from audi.

It was the worst timing ever for me as I'd just taken a deposit to sell it. I noticed it had been on watchdog so just went in and said I'd seen on the net that vw acknowledge that it was a fault and generally fix for free. Service man went away and spoke to warranty manager who said basically I have pay to have it scanned and if the fault code is one vw recognise as being the fault code that relates to this they cover all the cost including diagnostic.

They did this, scanned it, and vw paid in full. Was no hassle at all. 5 minute conversation and they even did the repair the same day they had it in to diagnose.
 
Well I had the car scanned this morning & it came up with a faulty brake pressure sensor and was told the whole ABS pump would need replaced. My vag specialist once again told me to take the car to audi for a good will gesture which I did. The guy in the service department at highland audi looked at me like I had horns growing out my head when I asked about this good will gesture. He did price the job however for £452 for part and labour. I asked again did you just say 4.5.2? He said yes which I am over the moon with as I thought this was going to be a £1000 - £1200 job! Does this price sound right?
 
Id imagine they are using the pump fix kit at that price. If I recall properly midland vw quoted me before I went to vw and their price was around £280 all in so id try a vag specialist if you have one locally

PS I'd give Audi customer service a call and tell them you've seen it on watch dog but your dealer won't help. Unfortunately you're stuffed if the service staff don't know about this issue. With customer service they are more likely to know about it and help you out.

I'm pretty sure he told the young boy in the parts department to price up an ABS pump job?
 
Iv nothing but good things to say about Highland Audi, prices seem very resonable.
Happy with the work they have carried out with my CruiseC and coding a new key.
Parts dept have been very helpful when iv asked about things :)

Good to hear. This is the first time I've used them as I normally use Kenny's autos vw/audi specialists or Kenny lobban (ironically has the same name & worked at Kenny's autos not that long ago). So I was not to sure about using a main dealer but I was gobsmacked with this price so much I'm still finding it hard to believe.

Aye Kenny's autos is in sneckie lol. He is based in seafield road near H.I.S. He worked at hawco's for years as the head technician.

parts are £160 + brake fluid + labour

done mine in 2 hrs on the driveway

280 sounds about right.
 
repair kit. you shouldnt need the whole pump. repair kit is most of the pump anyway bar electronics at the back.

I guess there is a chance the electronics are at fault but nearly always seems to be the repair kit only required.

so £452 is way too much then? I'm positive the guy priced a whole new pump
 
think a new pump is circa a grand
 
Remember highland audi charge 110 quid an hour for labour.
2 hrs plus the repair kit and 20% vat would probably be close to what they quoted u m8 ;)

just had my airbag light warning. scanned it and the drivers side door crash sensor came up. finally found the problem was the wire harness had a broken wire and also wire chafing. took it to my audi dealer out of warranty and they fixed it FOC via goodwill

I'm going to take it to Kenny's autos instead then, **** paying £110 an hour labour lol

Tbh if I had a vag/audi specialist Indy near I'd use them instead of Audi.
I'm not really that interested in Audi FSH but deffo see the benifit/ need for OEM parts :)
Don't imagine it will add more to the value when I trade it in.
But seen as Aberdeen and highland Audi are same distance from me I'm happy to use them as I don't find it that expensive :)
