Yesterday, I went to drive my car and after starting I noticed the EPC light on and that there were no lights on my dashboard. The headlights seemed to work, but no dash lights. I tried starting the car a couple of times, the dash lights came on low once and then flickered off.

About a month ago Audi replaced my ESC control unit as it crashed during an update related to an recall. This was 157 miles ago. At the time Audi also did an health check which said that there's likely a leak as there is engine oil around the sump and on the gearbox. I've been meaning to take it to the garage but haven't had time and hardly been driving my car. The engine management light came on about 2 days ago.

I am wondering what could cause the issue with the EPC warning light and dashboard lights not not working? could it be related to Audi replacing the EPC control unit? Also is the EPC light and the dash not coming on connected or separate issues?

I've done a scan and have these fault codes, I haven't cleared them yet. Any info or advice appreciated.

Hi guys, do you need me to post the full scan? I'm guessing address 17 and/or 44 are causing the dead cluster/dashboard lights?

I guess I should reset the DTCs and check the fuses. Any ideas after that? I saw somebody mention disconnecting the battery.

Looks like Address 44 Steering Assist: '00750 - Warning Lamp, 013 - Check DTC Memory - MIL ON' is priority 2 ' = 'The fault requires a immediate service point'. I think that is the most serious one out of the fault codes?

Any ideas if the ECU being replaced could have caused this? if so I want to get on to Audi before taking it to an Audi/VW Specialist in case they say I shouldn't have used another garage.

Check and clean the battery terminals, ensuring they are not loose.

I just checked they were pretty tight and clean. I've disconnected the connections and I will probably not connect them until tomorrow and see if that makes a difference as I read that does a reset. The connections looked quite clean, so I just gave the battery terminals a quick wipe with some wd40. I have a cheap multimeter somewhere that I need to dig up and have a look at the volts of the battery.

Anyone know the fuse location for the instrument panel / cluster? I can't find my handbook but looking generally at the fuses I can't notice any blown. But would be good to check the right one. I got a 58 plate/2009 A3 2.0TFSI.

There are 2 sets of fuses.Did you check both?

Yeah, I had a look at the ones at the side of the door and the ones near the battery. The fuses inside the car, by the door had a list on the reverse of the panel, none of them looked relevant though.. but having a outer inspection they looked alright, without pulling them out.

The fuses by the battery, didn't have a list, but from a glance over them none of them looked blown that I noticed.

But if anyone had an idea of fuse number that would be helpful.

Did you look at the dash dimming control as discussed on the other thread? I am pretty sure that if that has gone within the circuit then you will have no dash lights, it shouldn't be too hard to check or bypass the switch to see if the lights come back on.

Thanks, how would I check or bypass the dash dimming control to check if the cluster will come back on?

Well, not an auto electrician but you can easily pop the the switch out by -turning the switch to the off position-then pull out and turn about 5 degrees to the right- the whole unit will then slide out

On mine the rear of the switch showed signs of shorting on the left side by the adjusters so was obvious once you looked at it.
At least you can check all the connectors are still good. Hope this helps and fingers crossed for you.

I've left my car for a few days. I found my multi meter to test the battery with the car off and after starting the car and the volts seemed fine. Afterwards I started the car and turnt my lights on and the dash lights came on and the EPC message wasn't on the cluster either. Turned it off and on again and the cluster came back on and no EPC or engine light. I did notice that on my radio & DIS the time was wrong. It was about 9pm but it said 6 something pm.

I'm not sure what's going on here, any ideas?

Damm, just tried my car and EPC light back on and the dash cluster is off again. does the rule out it being a fuse or the switch since the cluster came back on the other day? I checked my oil and it very low too.

Working Mon-Fri is so annoying most garages close early on Saturday and most closed on Sunday.

I'm going to book it into a garage sometime this week, i'll have to take some time of work. Any ideas on the issues mentioned?

And do you think this could have anything to do with the ESC being replaced?

The cluster is working again. Ran a scan and cleared... and than rescanned, couple faults wouldn't clear.
