Hey all Was flicking through videos on YouTube and came across an American guy who managed to change his rear brake pads without having VCDS to wind back the pistons. What he did was undo the connector on the back of the EPB motor & using a 12v battery with a small pair of multi-meter wires, passed a current through the motor to retract the piston, finished winding the caliper back as normal, fitted the pads and reconnected the plug then simply applied the EPB using the switch inside the car. My questions are: - 1. Is it safe to do this from a point of view of brake operation. 2. Would it throw up any warning lights that would require the software to remove anyway Here's the link to the video Cheers all J.
I agree but you will hear a change in the sound of the motor. Toff did full instructions, Link:- http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/...d-anybody-recommend-Pagid?p=795822#post795822 This member manually wound his one back, IIRC the facelift 2009-11 rear calliper piston has a groove in it to allow wind back, I faintly recall seeing a tool somewhere .
