Engine speed sensor location 2004 2.5 TDi?

Can anyone help? Drove the car home on Thursday night & it wouldn't start in the morning!

The car has only covered 60k & was previously running fine, DTC logged as Engine Speed Sensor G28 so I'v ebought a new one just in case but can't find it on the engine! Did a search on here but no luck as yet either

Ok after much looking & now having the new part in my hands I've found it but can't see any way you can get to it & change it!!

There's 2 speed sensors in the v6 tdi, one is also known as the crank sensor, the other is built inside the VP44 injector pump. the crank sensor can be replaced- fiddly but doable, the one inside the pump needs a pump rebuild ! I suggest you check the engine with VCDS, measuring blocks 18 to see if the pump controller gets power. If it gets then replace the crank sensor, if it doesn't then the pump will need a rebuild. I take it you have plenty fuel ?
