I have a 2005 a3 TDI S line DSG, that has had the above issue for a while now. On a cold start, the engine shakes, almost like a misfire for around 3 seconds...makes a rattling noise then runs fine.
I did the usual google search and had a look around to see if I could find some further information as to what could be causing it. One theory, is that it maybe be one of the auxiliary belt pulleys? ONE Local garage I spoke to seemed to think it maybe the cam belt tensioner, however at the same time they were not keen on carrying out the work by the sound of things.
Outside of this issue the car runs great considering its age and 215k miles.
