Engine Problems!!

I have a 97 1.8t quattro.

When i am coming to a stop and i push in the clutch the rpms drop below 1000 and start to go up and down between 500 and 1100, it does the same thing if i rev the engine and it sometimes happens when i turn the car on. It feels like it wants to turn off but it doesnt. It only last about 10 secs but it is really annoying. Im also getting alot of hesitation when i lay on the throttle but if i let off and hit it again it will accelerate fine.

I replaced the spark plugs with the factory specified ones about 2000 miles ago and the MAF about 1000 miles ago.

Perhaps a dodgy EGT or Lamba sensor. Best thing is to check for fault codes on vagcom.

the Throttle Position Sensonr on fords, and the Idle Control Valve both cause this.

aye the idle controller clogs up with gunk usually just need removed and cleaned out with a solvent cleaner or petrol

Fairly easy job to undertake by yourself, as long as your carfull and not heavy handed.
