I have been looking on several sites regarding oil I am just looking to buy some to keep as a top up but I am getting conflicting views! what are you guys using and recommending??

really? I may need to ask them for this service! will check my dipstick now because I have a feeling my car has drunk a lot of it since I got it from new just hit 1000 miles with it

the usual brands mobil Castrol shell, most likely looking at 5W-30 fully synthetic
They've always done it for my last 3 cars. It appeared to just be a standard thing they mention during handover.

504.00 507.00 is high quality because it's a LongLife oil and feeds 99% of VAG engines .
If you want something even higher quality and your pockets are deeper and you need it because , yours..

Is Stage 2+ and you want or have been recommended for the extra protection
Then choose an Ester racing oil by

Regardless of what Audi put in the boot, they use Quantam oils out of a jack.
I have to query the service on my 1.4TFSi next week, the manual recommends 0W-30 and that's what was in the car when delivered but Audi have invoiced the service that was done yesterday as 5W-30.

Don't worry about it 504.00 is allowed to be 0W30 or 5W30 , as far as I know it's only Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2 C3 and Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L ( probably same product ) that's 0W30 .
Mine came with 5w 40. Having had an 8P RS3 prior to the 8V, this confused me, the 8P always used 5w 30.
I called my dealer to query this and he told me that the system shows that 5w 40 is the right oil to use in an RS3. I wanted this clarifying and he logged a ticket with Audi direct, I'm still waiting to hear back.

5W40 but what VW oil spec ??

hence my questioning it... My concern at this moment is that my dealer are telling me that this is the correct oil. Still no word from Audi UK.
Out of interest, what makes it medium quality? the 5w 40 or the 502?
502.00 but some are just 502.00 505.00 but Quantum Platinum will be better cause it's 502.00 505.01 but not as good as 504.00.

Simply stating the viscosity and synthetic/Semi synthetic is not enough a classification for oils.
High performance engines = ester based.
The dealers ARE giving you correct oil, but they aren't giving you the BEST oil.
As with everything a bit of marketing going on , even fully synthetic isn't fully synthetic cause group 3 oil basestock is a severely hydrocracked mineral oil .
With anything saying its Ester based which is top group 5 it certainly won't be just group 5 but a combination of 4 and 5 or 3, 4 and 5 and the percentage of 5 is usually 10 - 20 % .
I think 3 , 4 and 5 is better as it combines the different qualities of each group .
Which is interesting as a piece albeit a single piece of evidence from a German lab says 504.00 507.00 is 3 , 4 and 5 .
I wonder what percentage the Ester is !
I don't think all 504.00 507.00 are 3 , 4 and 5 and I don't know what brand was tested , VW's own Quantum ?
My car has just covered 2,000 miles so I thought it was time to check the oil.
It was down but above min level so I put 400ml in which brought it just below max.
Audi didn't supply me with Castrol but Mobil 1.
Has Volkswagen changed its recommended brand to Mobil 1?

It doesn't matter, it's who can supply what at an attractive cost .

Yeah, they supplied the wrong oil for the car and some has been added so it's the least they can do as far as I'm concerned.

Easiest way to stop any confusion is for you to supply the oil you want putting in your car.
I took my son's Golf 7 R in for a service at the local VW garage and asked for VW spec 504 oil to be used. When I saw the invoice I noticed that VW spec 502 has been used.
During the booking in process, I asked which brand of oil was used in their garage and the service receptionist said Honda!! I asked him to check and he came back saying Shell 504 spec which I would have been happy with.
I complained to the service manager who said they had used the correct oil for an annual service in spite of me asking for longlife.
He would not budge when I asked for it to be changed to what I asked for.
First thing when I got home was to order from ECP and change the oil myself.
The net result is that neither of our VW cars goes there for any work so the pedant lost our custom.
So last week my S3 8P at stage 2+ went to Audi with 5 litres of Millers Nanodrive in the boot. Our TT will go with Castrol Edge and so any concern is eliminated.

Unsure about the exact specification but it was not what I asked for.
I also have a Golf GTI 1.8T bought new in 1998. I have always had fully synthetic long life oil installed and been happy to pay the difference if asked. It has been remapped for 35,000 miles and now at 107,000 miles it runs very sweetly with virtually no oil usage.
What p****s me off is that we all have an interest in our cars on here whereas it is rare to find someone who works at the main dealer with the same interest from my experience.
At my local Audi garage recently, I have had conversations with 2 people who work there. Both said words to the effect that they are not interested in cars and it is only a job!

Here in Australia I can confirm Audi dealers use Castrol Edge Professional 5W-30 as per Teminator X's post above in the RS3 engines. I checked with service manager after taking delivery of my RS3 a few months ago & this is what they showed me & recommended. Off course other brands may offer oils with similar attributes.

Having a debate with a friend who says I should get my car serviced by an independent and that it won't affect resale. I appreciate you don't lose your warranty these days by going independent, but personally when I'm buying a car I want to see that it has a full main dealer service history.

I'd expect a car to have main dealer servicing for first 3 years. Perhaps I'm old school though

*****! I'd trust a specialist any day of the week over Listers. But I'm also of the opinion that it's better to have main dealer stamps come resale. And for any goodwill.

As you have guessed, that was my point. A lot of main dealers provide a mediocre service with little attention to detail and poor value for money. I understand what you're getting at but, for me, a FSH from a good independent or specialist would be of greater interest.
I spoke with a trusted chap in parts at the local VW dealer. I asked the same question about oil grades, it would appear that the 5w/30 oil is used in Long Life Servicing and then the 5w/40 is used when fixed/annual servicing is chosen.
They are robots , the 5W30 is universal , it does everything , fixed / variable , dpf / non dpf .
