Hi All

I have an issue with my 2010 A4 Avant 2.0 TDI and wondered if anyone could help.

After make a sharp left turn my engine management light starts flashing and continues to flash until I restart the engine. The car does not go into limp mode and doesn't appear to be suffering any ill effects.

This ONLY happens when I make a sharp left turn, I have never managed to get the light to flash by making a sharp right turn.

It happens when the ESP is on or off.

On full lock pulling off slowly it doesn't flash.

Pulling out left at a junction causes the light to flash.

I have not had the car checked for fault codes and I haven't got the kit to check this myself.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Dave

Get the fault code read, then you know where to look.

Could be something like a dangling wire touching earth.....

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but I've just had an thought:- has the car been lowered? Mainly, if so, then there is a real danger of some wiring fouling and maybe shorting or touching earth (as mentioned earlier), I think that you either need to bodge up some extra support clips after fixing the damaged wiring, or spend a bit of cash buying a fix in from US - though I'd doubt if that will be cost effective. Maybe have a look on some USA based Audi owners sites.

My guess is water ingress!

Hi All

Sorry for taking so long to respond, I have been on holiday for a few weeks and have been waiting for my diag cable to turn up. I now have the cable and have ran a scan and it found the following 7 fault codes for the engine control module;

7 Faults Found:
5380 - Valve for Air Filter Bypass Flap (N275)
P1016 00 [047] - Open Circuit
Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 254
Mileage: 95105 km
Date: 2014.01.26
Time: 17:14:10

5382 - Valve for Air Filter Bypass Flap (N275)
P1015 00 [032] - Short to Ground
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
5266 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 Bank 1
P2470 00 [040] - Short to Ground
Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 32
Mileage: 102882 km
Date: 2014.07.28
Time: 18:08:29

5120 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1
P2196 00 [096] - Signal too High (Rich)
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
10085 - Neutral Gear Sensor
P15A1 00 [096] - Implausible Signal
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
10086 - Neutral Gear Sensor
P15A1 00 [096] - Implausible Signal
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
10087 - Neutral Gear Sensor
P15A1 00 [032] - Implausible Signal
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear

I have cleared all these faults and scanned again before starting the engine or driving the car and this fault code comes back straight away;

5380 - Valve for Air Filter Bypass Flap (N275)
P1016 00 [039] - Open Circuit
Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 105495 km
Date: 2014.08.26
Time: 10:19:30

I then went for a drive, went round a sharp left hand corner and my engine management light came on as usual. Scanned when I got home and this fault appeared;

5266 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 Bank 1
P2470 00 [167] - Short to Ground
MIL ON - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 105496 km
Date: 2014.08.26
Time: 10:22:41

Not looked into either of the faults yet but it appears than the "5266 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 Bank 1" is what is causing my engine management light to come on. Not really what I expected.
