Hi guys,
I want to replace the engine and gearbox mounts on my 05 A3 TDI S-line.
Having had a search on the forum, I can see a lot of people suggest using powerflex inserts opposed to replacing the mounts with oem ones?
Can anyone tell me how many mounts I will need?
Am I right in thinking I'll need an engine mount, gearbox mount, and an insert for the dog bone /subframe?

Thanks

Replace the dogbone it takes 10 minutes, cheap and easy access, 3 bolts to open. 2 on the gearbox and one on the subframe.
For the subframe engine mount pucks insert 1 power flex insert since these are a PIA.

Not sure what to do about the 2 upper engine mounts:
1) replace with oem
-2) remove them and have fun with some polyurethane to reinforce your own ones

As above, engine side is a pain to do tbh as its tight & engine needs angling to swap iirc, box is easy just removing everything takes little time, dog bone, the subframe is pressed in 2 parts, so I would get another subframe & fit into that then saves time & car not off the road whilst you swap bushes in the frame, the box to subframe is simple enough as its just a long piece of metal so to speak.

Thanks for the responses guys.
So it would be easier to grab a spare sub frame to replace the bush there and the dog bone?
Where can I actually buy new mounts from outside of dealers?
Also would filling the original mounts with polyurethane opposed to buying the inserts work just as well?
Lastly, would be a good idea to replace the mount bolts also?
I am quite hands on, but know my limits so I think I will leave the engine side mount for my local garage to fit.

I wouldn't spray into them to get a better mount, no way in hell.

Just replace them.

I've reused mount bolts tbh, but if you're anal swap them out.

Engine mount is easy, jack under the engine with wood, and just remove the side you’re working on

Ok.
Will these mounts fit my car?

Unsure whether the gb mount is different on mine being a DSG compared to a manual?

Unsure on that NHN may know. But you must use a torque wrench to tighten these to the car…

Update:

I ordered all new mounts from Autodoc in the end. However after having looked into removing the sub frame bushes to replace....it looks like an absolute nightmare of a job.....well unless you have specialist tools to press in /press out.
Would I notice much difference in replacing the subframe bush, compared to using a red insert instead? The Red insert is listed as a diesel insert and supposedly the softest one?

Thanks
