Can you buy a second hand ECU and recode it to your 8L A3 on vagcom without the matching clocks and ignition and key etc?
If so has anyone got an idea on price to recode it?

Assuming that the ECU is the same code as the old one and the car is Prefacelift, you can recode it with VAGcom to suit your Immo no problem

ok,thanks for the reply.wasnt sure if it was that easy or not
any idea on price?
im looking at buying a chipped ecu and was thinking it may be cheaper to just swap the chips over.is this the easier option or are they chipped to the specific ecu?

i belive the chip is soldered in, our ecu's are usually programed via obd2 or on a bench, but as far as I know no openning of the ecu is involved

Rob
