Hello!

Audi A3 Sport - 2.0 TFSI - 2006 - Automatic

A few months ago, the DIS display in the centre of the instrument panel went blank for a few seconds, then came back on - and it had reset itself to the default display (miles left in tank).

Over the weeks, this has been happening more and more frequently - the display goes blank, seems to 'reset', then comes back on showing 'Miles left in Tank'

It now does this every few minutes, and is quite distracting.

I've also noticed that at the same time as the display goes blank, the temperature LCD display goes bright for a second or two, before going back to dim.

And now, sometimes all the warning lights come on briefly behind the dials, followed by a loud 'beeeeep', and the clock resets to 00:00... This has only happened about three times.

I've taken it to the garage today, and the mechanic there first thought it was faulty ground/earth somewhere. He had the battery out (because I recently had a battery acid leak), and cleaned up the area again, but the fault remained. He believes it is likely a faulty ECU, and that it will have to go to Audi to resolve, with probable reprogramming etc.

I just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar, and were able to resolve it? The fault does not seem to affect my use of the car, it is more of an annoyance, but I am conscious that the fault is happening more and more frequently, and with occasional 'new' behaviour.

The question is - do I get the fault investigated/resolved by Audi at great expense (the mechanic suggested £800 minimum), or just live with it and hope that it doesn't cause the car to fail in some way?

Any thoughts most welcome!

Many thanks!

Have you had a diagnostic done on your car if not best get one done first that way it will give you a better idea off the fault .
If you don't have a cable check out the Vcd's map and pm someone close to you to run an Autoscan for you ( normally do for a few beer tokens ) and take from there

As above, diagnostics all the way, love these so called mechanics £800 :astonished:
Grab yourself a carrista and start getting your own fault codes and educate yourself before you go to any garage, your half way there being on here.
A carrista will set you back £50ish a fault code check at any garage is £40 upwards, so you will save in the long run. Or check on here as there are a lot users with a proper VCDS that will check your car for a small charge.
Here is a sample of a carrista fault code check.

Even if the ecu is toast, there are a few companies that will repair it at lass than half the cost.
