Well I'll shortly be investing in a complete overhaul of shocks/springs/ARB's/bushes etc. Whilst building my shopping list I came across these on the Awesome website:

Awesome - Eibach/Bilstein B12 Pro Kit - A3 (8L1) 09/96 -> 05/03 S3 quattro

Anyone have any experience of these? I know the B8's + H&R/Eibach are tried and tested but just wondered how these might compare in terms of ride height, comfort and handling....

Very popular option and very similar to the H&R springs but maybe a tad more comfortable but theres a few reviews through out the site of the Bilstein B8 and Eibach combo on the S3.

Not trying to hijack your thread but thought i would post in here rather than start a new one.

I am going to look at sorting my suspension in the new year as the it started to knock a little and have been looking at just coilovers to start with and my budget is going to be about £500 (or less) i have not got much experience in this field so any advice would be most helpful as i would like to keep as much of the comfort as possible and lower it a little but not too much.

the coilovers i have seen in my budget are these on DPM`s website :

So any info or personal experience greatly appreciated.

Out of the ones you've put up I'd say either the AP or the Vogtland are your best options in terms or build and ride quality but you will get more comfort if you stick with springs and shocks.

Thanks Damian. Does anyone know anyone with them fitted that has any pics of how low they are?

Cheers for the info i am swaying towards the AP coilovers as for the money people say they are very good. Does both the AP and Vogtland kits comprise of the same bits n bobs? is it worth paying the extra £50ish for the vogtlands?

If i went for shocks n springs instead of coilovers what are the advantages / disadvantages?

Would this be the AP version of shocks and springs? if so does that mean that it lowers the car 20 - 30mm and stays like that. therfore the only advantage of coilovers is that you can adjust the height?

If so that drop would be enough for me and i am not planning on changing the height once they are fitted so could save myself £100 and do this rather than the coilovers.

Looks like there is a few of us in the same boat, suspension upgrade on mine after x-mas.

Really want to for the B8 / HR combo I had on my old one but not sure I can justify the costs anymore when you can get shocks and springs for £350.

True, but I don't want to go through all the work/cost of fitting unknown quality suspension and then having to do the job all over again....

The B12 kit is looking pretty good to me, under £650 and good quality products. Fancied coilovers originally but it seems pointless when I am going to adjust them once then stick them on.

As there is a few of us, I wonder if we good get a group buy going on next year with DPM??

That's right yes, it lowers the front 30mm and the rear 20mm.

The AP and Vogtland are similar kits but the Vogtland does have the edge on quality.

You'd get more comfort with shocks and springs but lose the height adjustability.

I have Eibach springs and Eibach Pro-System dampers on my A4, which are now discontinued, but appear to be a previous incarnation of this new B12 Pro-kit product.

They're perfect for a road car IMO.

If you want your car "lowered into the weeds" then they're not for you. If you want a car that handles extremely well, and rides much better than the OEM setup, then they are.

Thanks Damian. Is that sitting on the B12 kit then? Also, are they 18's or 19's?

Thanks for this. I'm not interested in 'deckin it' just removing a bit of the arch gap, did the B12's lower your A4 much?

They did, its now sitting around 25" Arch to ground, which IMO is about the perfect ride height for an A4, but then this clearly wont follow onto an S3.

I found the original springs to have sagged heavily on the rear, so it didnt actually drop the back end by much, but brought the front right down level.

I took this snap not long after fitting them:

The front has dropped a tiny bit more since, and the arch gap front/rear is even.

As an example, the missus avant on the original springs, with a stance similar to how mine sat before the Eibachs:

Weird why lower at the front than the rear?

I think for the money i have available to me that the AP shocks n springs could well be the thing for me.

That's just how AP make them.

Damian @ DPM Performance

Cheers for the info so i guess it looks right fitted to the car eg its not visably higher at the back than the front

Just had a quicklook on your site at the 2 sets eg the B12 pro kit and the AP setup so for arguments sake is there any reason the AP stuff is almost half the price? is it made from similar materials and have the same sort of warranty?

Sits slightly lower at the front but no big difference.

The B12 kit is better quality in terms or build and ride but you get 2 years warranty with both kits.

Cool, well think i have made my decision then and will try out the AP`s as 2 year warranty for the Kit for the money sounds like a good deal so early Xmas present for me :)

UPS confirms that my shiney new suspension bits should be here on monday :)

So just wondered how much i should expect to pay a local indy garage to fit it and also do a gemetry check after? as i dont have the tools etc to fit myself (plus its a bit cold out in the garage at the mo).

Anyone eles got Vogtland Tec Line Coilover Suspension Kit ? how would you rate them, And anyone got any pictures off these fitted on the s3 ?

thanks

Nice big box of AP suspension bits arrived today so hopefully i can arrange getting them fitted over the xmas hols ready for 2012 :)

Can someone confirm my feelings that B12 kit contains B8 shocks + Eibach Pro-kit springs?
My local dealer couldnt answer that and didnt have any B12 kits in stock. He had B8+eibach set separated in stock but the price would be ~70€ more than B12.

Thanks aragorn!
A quick ring for the dealer and got answer that delivery time would be 2-3 weeks, damn!
Have to look from some other shops..

I have the b12 kit, about 6 months old, the front struts are fkd, play between the piston and tube, not a happy camper

Fitted my B8 & Eibach springs 3 years and 60,000 miles ago and all good bar broken rear springs ends due to the shocking potholes around here. By far the best suspension set-p I have ever had and DPM Performance who supplied them are mega helpful guys and great service

I was impressed with mine to start with, now anything less than smooth Road, feels like my wheels are buckled
