EBC redstuff brakes & disks upgrade for my b9

EBC finally released their front pads for the b9. It was time for some new brakes and disks. I have one of the first b9s. Had a note that this would need to be done soon in November.

I have 318 mm vented disks on the front & 300 mm solids disks on the back. I got the kit which includes pads and disks for the front and back which gives you a better deal. Decided against the groved disks.

Got these at a good price from www.ebcbrakesdirect.com with a 10% discount which was a £38.46 saving. Use code IAM485967 working as of 20/02/20

Would have been £461.58 but got it for £415.43

@Gazwould I wouldnt have the time to go out and do this now but thanks. Good idea. Did you spray light where the disk would meet the hub? How many miles did you get out of your original discs? Do you have any experience with Redstuff

Seriously I would key them up and white spirit clean and spray .

Doesn't take long at all .

You haven't got time , but you will hate every time you see the rust and wished you had .

Paint is thin on hub , can you see the fade out ?

Replaced rusty discs on a car new to me .

No different to OE , they are not allowed to be as have to be within 15% to gain ECE R 90 status .

Massive brake dust reduction that saw me remove Pagid with 9mm of material left .

Get them hot and breaking is beyond OE .

Brakes & disks bedding in nicely now. Going to get a few miles on them before putting in harder stops to do the final bed in process. (60mph - 5mph) They work good from cold which was a worry of mine. No issues as yet. No brake squeal either. Brake fluid got changed again just to have everything on point.

Fully bedding in now disks and brakes. The Redstuff pads have been silent from day one. My local Indy put brake grease on something that EBC didn’t supply. I would definitely recommend doing some mileage on these before you do the hard brake in. Do about full tank of driving before you initiate the brake in. Don’t do any emergency braking in this period. Do 5 hard stops and allow the brakes to cool before you stop. Don’t stop dead whilst doing the final stage.

I also did a brake fluid change to have everything fresh. Overall very impressed with dust. These brakes are meant to be not so hard on the disks. They say they last longer. Very progressive with good bite. When you put your foot down it’s very impressive and stop on a dime. I don’t get any fade when testing. I would highly recommend these to any b9 owner. Will be fitting these from now on. Can’t rate them enough.

Why did you not take the opportunity to paint the calipers the same colour, at least, to the pads?

Had these one for some time now. No issues. Been one of the best investments & worked out cheaper than oem parts. Less dust. Stops much better with zero fade. Would highly recommend these to any b9 owners.

Hey. I am just looking for replacement to my first set of disks, and second set of pads, all original parts. Audi quoted flipping £1120 far all new, which is crazy in my opinion.
Please could you advise the best way to find out about caliper made & disks diameters?

Had my fronts done a few months ago at my local tyre specialist. Brembo discs and pads fitted inc VAT for £225.
Rears shouldn't be too much more.

@CornishB9 How do you find your new Brembos? Any noticeable difference comparing to your old set?
Well they stop the car, seem a little less dusty and were a lot cheaper than going to a main dealer. Was offered Audi originals, pattern copies and Brembo's. Not a lot of difference in price

I think they are Meh- no noticeable difference I’ve done a few heavy brakes 100mph to 30 or so they fade a similar way to the OE pads.

The only annoyance is that the brembos squeak when cold, it resolves after a few miles never had that with OE and pagids. I suppose it’s the higher metallic material which helps with brake dust. It’s not really something I’m pleased with considering it’s not a track/ Sunday run car.

Id stick with OE or pagids- brake dust isn’t a problem.

Avoid Pagid OE discs and pads like the plague.
ECP bought the OE division and cheaped out.

I had no idea who made these dust monsters until they were replaced with Redstuff.

Late 2021 and now Redstuff isn't going to be my default pad of choice , all down to their cost .

Now it's Ferodo Eco Friction , these are up front ( right wheel ) after 1 month of low mileage .

I see, the last time I bought pagids we’re on my A6, I’ve bought 2 full sets of pagid pads in 2015 and 2018. They worked perfectly no squeaks wobbles etc, albeit with brake dust.

I was considering them for my A4, but went with the brembos as the reviews were good, I couldnt justify buying original Audi pads as I plan to change car soon. The brembos do squeak until about 5-6 brakes, they’re fine after that. Maybe it will cease after a while.

if ECP has bought out pagids and changed the manufacturing specs id image they would be like eicher pads. I bought some of those long ago on the recommendation of a corner garage - never again they were awe full.

And the Pagid brake discs I bought and will rubbish was back in 2013 .

The car I bought with those filthy Pagid pads was in 2018 , so filthy they came off for the Redstuff with the Pagid having 9mm of material left indicating them to be fairly recent .


'Genuine' Audi A4 brake pads are indeed Ferodo Eco Friction

Way cheaper to buy without the Audi packaging , oe pad pricing .

Just wanted to head back to my old post to let others know that these ebc pads & discs will last and stop so much better than Audi. The discs show such minor wear. They’re have been on the car since feb of 2020 & the pads are only half done. Normally we have to fit a set alternating front to back each year.

This has saved garage fees and new pads. I guess Audi can’t make money if the pads and discs last so long.

I’m ebc red stuff for life now.
