Hi,

Some people might shoot me for saying this...

But, I am thinking of getting my 2004 SE TDi resprayed Ibis White... (Currently Black)

What is your opinion?

Ive had a car repainted and its a bit of a pain... and costly to get it done properly... I wouldnt do it again, Id sell the black one and get a white one.

How much is a full re-spray done PROFESSIONALLY?

For a full car you should be expecting £3k or more. Makes it awkward when trying to sell it too, you have to explain why the colour was changed and it can put a lot of people off.

You would have to be bonkers, you would slash the value even if you could find anyone to buy it. Unless you removed the engine the underbonnet would still be black Etc Etc. Swap the car for sure.

Always makes a re-sale dodgy as people start to wonder why its changed colour and is there more than meets the eye. Just switch your car mate, will end up a LOT cheaper and your car will be a LOT less rattly.

What is the general opinion on the Ibis White?? A few of my friends said it would look stupid! And look like a bit of a show off. I think it looks amazing...

I think it looks ******* great!!!!!

But I am a bit biased. I was gonna buy another black car, but got the white as a test drive when I went to look at the car. It works really well on this car.

As said mate, trade it in , to have it sprayed will cost 5-6k and take weeks to do a PROPER job , stripping the car fully , interior out , engaine out.

You'll have trouble selling it , and the car will come back with more rattles than it went in with!

White is definitely the new black. You see more and more of them on the road these days. But you would indeed be mad to get your own car resprayed!

I agree with Kontraband - a new paint job is a lot of work. Years ago I helped a mate strip down most of his car to be repainted (he saved money by doing some of the prep himself). But putting it back together was a total nightmare, and it was never quite right afterwards - lots of squeaks and rattles, odd electrical gremlins etc. Not worth it!

Another option that never really gets mentioned is to get the car wrapped by a sign writter who specialises in vehicle wrapping.

Not only can they do basic colours but also graphics, and the beauty is that it's totally reversable and far cheaper than having it re-sprayed.

Although it wont be as glossy as paint but it's a very good option to go for instead of painting.

Colour changes show up as `condition alert` on HPI reports etc. this is bad...

Think white is cool though, very much colour of the moment.
