Hi All,

I ran my car on a dyno a couple of days ago and was presented with some pretty interesting results. I am pretty annoyed, but also curious as to what I can do about it (if anything).

I have an Audi A3 (2010) 2.0 TDI - 170bhp, which I had remapped around 2 years ago with Viezu tuning. I also have a few other mods (Miltek, BMC filter etc) but they do very little in terms of performance gains.

So long story short, I took my car for a service around 2 months ago to my local Audi dealer and when i got the car back it felt pretty slow again, not awful, but not great. Took my car to the Dyno and lo and behold, i am back to 170 (Stock). Now i am no expert so i wanted to make sure the Dyno results were correct and I also need to understand what I can do in regards to Audi giving me some money for writing over my map. Please note, everything i take it in, i tell them not to do a software update, so they have either done it without telling me or even worse they have applied the emissions fix to my car which I have opted out of on a number of occasions. Can someone confirm, would a software update overwrite the map?

And what is the best way forward? The company i took my car to were pretty decent they offered me a new map and dyno for £350, apparently they write there own maps from scratch and also sell maps to other providers. I was quoted around 210-215bhp other maps are quoting me around 225, but not to phased by that as I know it can vary, more interested in seeing if Audi will give a ****.

If it had the software update for emissions then that will over write your map. If you told Audi explicitly not to update the engine and they did then should be liable for the cost of remapping it back to where it was before.
Car could end up anywhere between 210 and 225bhp with a remap,more likely around 215-220bhp but depends on the state of the engine and the accuracy of the dyno.

Thanks mate, I didn't think that a standard software update would overwrite the map as I've had a software update on before and it was fine (Was for rear windows). But I have a funny feeling the Emissions update would. I doubt they will admit it, but I'll keep badgering them until they admit it!

Have to ask why you even took your car to Audi for basic servicing? Do you not have any specialists near you?

All engine ECU software updates will over-write your map. I suspect yours has had the emissions fix.

Why don't you contact Viezu who will have a copy of your original remap and may put it back on for a lot less than £350?

Bit naughty of Audi re-mapping your car, especially when you told them not to. It is 'Your' car not theirs and ask them to pay for re-mapping costs. I would go back to Viezu as well and have your old map flashed back in, sure they would take pity on you.

Why wouldn’t you take your Audi to Audi for servicing? They price match any local specialists and you get the benefit of a half decent courtesy car.

For exactly the reasons the OP is having issues with - they don't listen and unless you actually get a seasoned tech, they suffer like most dealerships do (regardless of brand), of constantly changing staff who never build up enough experience to know the older cars inside out.

If you want to take yours to a dealer, go for it, but it's not always about price matching - experience is king, especially as the cars get older and common issues (and fixes) arise.

No bashing as I know there are some good dealers out there who really do care, but my spanking new car will not be going back to the dealer.
