DTUK Tuned RS3 saloon is already achieving 0-60 in 3.2 seconds

“Welsh Tits” :lmfao:

Oh yes the car is quick no doubt about that, can’t wait :) But if you take yourself back to when I had one on loan, I did say I’d earned a new respect for it. It’s not all about speed, it’s the whole package.

Nope I wouldn’t want a warranty refusal.. I’m sure a lot of us would be the same in not choosing to take on a several thousand pound repair bill. I’ve seen this come true recently with a friends RS3, it had been remapped and the gearbox packed in the same night (car driven hard regularly). £5800 for a gearbox, without fitting. Audi found out about the remap, despite it having been returned to stock before going in.
Who did the remap out of interest?

I won’t say because the company are absolutely s*** hot with what they do and have a worldwide reputation.

But what I will say is the car had a ‘minor’ gearbox warning allowing continuation of driving, after which the car did 187mph in 6th gear and then the gearbox seized solid. It wasn’t down to the map but the way the car is driven regularly, the map probably just took the car over the threshold to speed up the inevitable.

If it's a sh1t hot company then why not say?! Or alternatively PM me?

Sounds like it might be MRC possibly ..... so whoever it was ... removed the map and Audi still knew.... must be a flash counter on the ecu or something similar.... I would have assumed they cleared all codes when putting the old map back on...
Either way I would have argued until the cows come home...!it would be their word against mine and it would have been down to audi to prove it had been mapped.

Not MRC, smaller company in Wales and not mainstream but have done some of our previous cars.

My A3 was mapped, Audi bought that and put it on their forecourt with a map on.. naughty.

Fair enough, so not one of the big boys, Revo, MRC, APR, Litchfield etc etc.

Nope none of those, so not one you’d come across or I’d say. My point is, it’s not a company you’d find yourself using so there is no point in tarnishing the name for nothing because I know they are damn good.

They have cars shipped from across the world for full rebuilds / tuning, they are specialists in their area. This occasion was just coincidence I think that the gearbox went shortly after. But I painted a picture on how hard the car is driven. I was once told that it was “annoying”, that the car wouldn’t get past 163MPH on a public road.. which paints a picture on how it’s driven on a regular basis.

On a re-map the ECU software is not totally erased but updated so it will record when updates are embedded - if the OEM manufacturer has not supplied the update then they will know it is an external tune. However, to refuse a warranty claim they may need to demonstrate that the map is responsible for the failure - the gearbox is a classic example together with the drivetrain - in they show 187mph going through it then job done.

I never found out their exact terms for voiding it but other than “they found the map”, he was gutted.

I was totally blown away that the car could do 187mph alone, letalone in 6th!! Well obviously it didn’t last for long after, haha.

Audi are well aware of the potential of the box and the engine hence offering the 174mph map - you have to think that beyond this number, they are worried about something going bang and a warranty claim.

There is a flash counter, thought everyone knew that?! You play you pay as they say.

Car allegedly goes past the limiter in 6th eg 7th gear has the 155 limit.

In the first 6 months of the car being new, when a problem arises it would be down to the manufacturer to prove the map caused the failure... anything after 6 months it is down to the owner to prove that the map didn’t cause it

Coming from a new Focus RS woh I had daily highly modded, and all the engine trouble they are having it’s been discussd and looked into hugely on their forums etc

I’ve heard a whisper of engine issues, but don’t know much about it. What is the problem and cause of?

Personally I didn’t have the problem... but the whole reason behind getting rid of the car and going for the RS3 was the worry in the back of my mind and the fun had gone from the car for me

Ford are still ‘playing dumb’ about the whole thing and just replacing heads/whole engines when they fail, rather than coming clean. And they’re being awkward to deal with as soon as modifications are involved. It’s a problem with the engines drinking coolant and then needing constantly topped up, which then come to a head and ends in a cracked block when too much coolant has got into the cylinder

On the RS forums there are tens of threads about the problem with thousands of replies... not a good situation for Ford and their RS brand

Did I read somewhere that the flash counter can be reset with VCDS?

I doubt it with VCDS, maybe ODIS ...

Thanks a lot for giving me an insight.

Interesting, I can understand Ford not wanting to pay out but the best thing they can do now for their reputation is to pay out.

Sorry for the lack of info or updates, the RS3 has been garage bound for 2 months due to my mum being seriously ill and my 95 year old gran living with myself the wife and 4 kids ...

In between hospital visits and snow and rain the car manage 3.1 0-60, and an 8 second 0-100 (on an airfield)..

My mums home, grans back home and we now have Xmas out of the way. Weather permitting I’ll be putting the finishing touches to the kit within the next couple of weeks. This will include some dyno feedback too, but this does depend on the weather as it’s not ideal at present.

Sorry to hear about your family - I’ve been through something that sounds similar a few years ago.

Looking forward to the results and feedback!

Take care and all the best,

Steve

Thank you Steve, over a two month period we were told 6 times my mum wouldn’t make it, but she had other plans :) thankfully she’s still with us, fighting and improving

sorry to hear about that andrew and i hope all goes well in the future.

I have a question... you say you have yet to put the car on a dyno..... however im sure about 10 days ago i looked on your site and you had power figures published for the FL car?... Can you let me know what these are based on please....possibly past experience based on what you've done before on PFL rs3 maybe?.. cheers

the figures on our website are from DTE (our supplier) based on a TTRS they tuned around 6 months ago

Anyone fitted one of these and care to give their opinion?
I did. It was ok. It's more of a stage 0.5. A remap is far superior, but of course you have warranty worries.

Tempted by one but really haven’t heard of many purchasing these boxes. On the Golf R it was a different story, everyone had them
