Hi guys I have a dtm with the BUL engine and it drinks alot of oil I recently had a full service from a audi Specialist and the oil was up at full I checked this but this morning my min oil level light came on and I had to top it with a full liter of oil but I only had it serviced 550 miles ago which I feel is alot the car is totally standard and this is my first audi petrol car and was just after any info whether this is normal (I don't think it is) and if any one else has had the same problem what could it be I have checked for leakes but there isn't any.
Thanks this car is my pride and joy and any information would be great .

welcome to the oil drinkers club then chap, I don't have a DTM but I do have a special edition avant 220 with the same BUL engine.
Firstly what is the car's milage and has it had the PCV replaced that you know off, also how do you check the oil level, to get an accurate reading you need to check it when the engine is warm , not cold, I used to get widly differing readings until I started checking with the engine quite warm, mine still uses oil but a lot less since I changed to an ester based 5W 40 oil .
mine was using oil like bonkers at 29k upto 32k , audi finally conceeded a problem and replaced the engine after 3 oil consumption test's, i'm on 53k approx. , still uses oil but depends on how hard I push the pedals, audi rekon 500ml per 600km is within accepted limits so that's probably driving the car quite hard aswell.
the whole audi tfsi and oil consumption situation is pretty well accepted by most owners now, it goes with the territory really, maybe you should get to a fresh starting point with the engine warm and upto the max mark then monitor the situation daily if you can or weekly and check the drop against milage etc.
You may also want to check inside your intercoolers for oil residue , I suspect there will a fair bit sloshing around in both.

Thanks for the reply mate the engine is on 65k and yes at times I have a heavy foot and just been out to look and it seems the pcv has been blanked off with forge plate could this have any effect and I knew the tfsi do use oil but was just worried as it seems alot but I would faut 1 litre in 550 miles would be quiet accurate as I checked milage from when serviced and also when I got my car back home from the garage I made sure oil was all the way up and then the light came on whist driving around 550 miles later and when I check was at the min on the dipstick both times when checking the car was warm. I will get bumper off on weekend and have a look at the intercoolers thanks again

you can check the IC's for oil residue first by just removing the engine under tray, you can then easily get to the bottom hoses and clips on both , just undo the clip and pull the hose off, if a lot come out them you would benefit from a bumper off and clean out , if not that much then just let the oil residue drain out and refit hoses, maybe put a rag in the bottom opening to mop up the last dregs of oil.
By the sound of it you have a forge pcv delete , or maybe a catch can setup

Ahhhh I see I will have a look tomorrow in the light and so is the usage of oil something I will just have to accept it as it's normal and not to worry about itsome just how they are and there was no catch can connected to the plate thanks for you help

some guys have no issues with oil consumption , others like myself ( even with a new engine) do appear to be effected and just live with it and try to keep it to a minimum , unless you get it a lot worse then maybe just go with the flow, 5w 40 ester based oil did help a lot for me though.

I had a similar problem with oil consumption in my car, it was serviced with 5w30 and I found myself constantly topping it up between services. I recently had a service last week and changed to 5w40 as recommended by an Audi specialist and also changed Cam follower & PCV valve, might be worth checking your own and changing as well. Haven't had a problem since although its only been a week, its a test now to see if these changes will work.
