The DSG box on my wife's A3 has developed a whine which I am told is most likely the diff, the local Audi agent want > 5000 to replace the gearbox which seems like a lot of money on a 6 year old car. They tell me that internal parts for the 6 speed DSG are not available which seems contrary to SMMT guidelines, perhaps they don't want the hassle of affecting a repair.

Does any know of a specialist who can repair the problem? Preferably for a little less then the 5k quoted..

Thanks

Dave

Hi mate

Where are you based??

I just had a DSG mechatronic replaced on my Wifes Seat Leon, we took it to a place called Driver Transmissions in Birmingham, they sorted the car for us and from all accounts, everyone I have spoken to about that place has nothing but good reviews for them.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

I am in Milton Keynes, no issue with the mechatronic, just the transmission whine. I will investigate them, thanks .

Have you tried a gearbox oil and filter change and resetting the adaptions first?

Yes, it was done last month, but it does not misbehave in any way, shifts are fine, clutch take up is fine, it simply whines with a typical diff load up whine.

Fair enough, try Slaters in Nottingham. Never used myself so it isn't a personal recommendation but they seem to have a good reputation online.

I am living with the whine, however if the whine turns to trashed gearbox them it is a false economy, as it is it may be repairable at minimal cost , it won't be if it goes bang.

Hi mate. Did you end up getting this sorted? If so how much and where from? Cheers

An update about my DSG problem. I wrote to the Audi UK MD and explained that a non serviceable assembly like the DSG box should last the lifetime of the vehicle or it should be repairable, especially as the car has only covered 60K miles. To be fair to Audi they immediately took control of the problem, they agreed that a new DSG box was required but contributed 85% of the cost reducing the bill to me to just under £1000, this is still more than I would have liked, but a massive improvement over the original fully estimated bill of £6500.

The new box is now in and the car is back to normal and the DSG comes with a 2 year warranty.

Full marks to Audi, they have restored my faith in the brand.

To be fair that's brilliant from Audi. It would perhaps benefit others if you shared a template of your letter on the thread in case this happens to anyone else.
