I have a 2005 2.0tfsi with engine code axx and gearbox code HRW I've been searching for a second hand box for a week now and nothing
Does anyone know if I can use a different gearbox code or which will be compatible? There's a couple on eBay from gtis but all have different codes??

Are you looking at direct replacement or changing from a manual?
Whats wrong with your DSG box?

Direct replacement my cars at a gearbox specialist now and they nor me can find a Dsg box with HRW code
They've run a diagnostic on it he told me the oil temp sender and a short circuit of some sort
The box knocks and bangs when I try driving it and goes into D and reverse very violently

Yeah, but it shows other boxes might fit; just a case of finding out which ones?

Its going to be cheaper to change out the mechatronics unit as the engine wont need dropping. so 3/4 hours work from a decent local mechanic and he will change the oil and filter for you at the same time, I don't think you have a problem with the gearbox as they are bullet proof and 99/9% of the time its the control box that goes as it has a load of valves in the get sticky and worn out that need cleaning or replacement, that's why its important to service and maintain a DSG box regularly every 40k or sooner.
