Hi guys.

Just wondering if anyone could possibly help me.

I've noticed an increase in black sut from my exhaust and a decrease in power and was thinking my dpf might need cleaning. I haven't been doing very big journeys lately so it's not been getting a good enough run to clean itself.

However, I haven't done this yet so I don't know where the dpf is located.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, pics too

I have a "57 plate, 2.0tdi, black edition sportback" for reference.

Thanks in advance

I didn’t think diesel 2007 cars had a DPF unless it’s a 170 engine.

I wouldn't expect to see much evidence of a black soot build-up on the exhaust tips on a modern diesel with DPF. Typically, the exhaust tips stay clean unless the DPF has been removed. Soot is trapped in the DPF where it is burned and ejected as very small ash particles. You get more exhaust tip soot build-up on modern petrol engines. If you're not getting any warning lights on the dash, as suggested above I would first try some cleaner in the system followed by a good run with the revs kept high to create plenty of cleansing heat.
