Hi All

I'm looking to get a new(ish) A3 undecided on the 184 / 150 diesel or manual/automatic but will figure that out when i go test drive them.

So currently i have automatic light/rain sensors on my 2005 A3, looking at quite a lot of the A3s on autotrader there isn't loads which seem to have them spec'd unless i go to the top end of my budget.

Just wondering if anyone that had them and now doesn't, do you miss your automatic lights/wipers?

I know its something little but i think i'd miss it, guess you'd get used to putting them on and off.

Cheers

Dean

Light and rain sensors are now standard on all new MY2018 A3s. I would miss especially the light sensors as I go to Germany quite a lot and there you are required to put you lihjys on when you enter even a short tunnel.
As to the exact model I have a 2.0 TDI-184 s-tronic quattro and would thoroughly recommend it. My current car is the second of this particular model and these have certainly the best two A3s out of the 10 I have owned. Just my view of course.

I had them on my 2012 Leon, although they seemed to be always on. Didn't have them on my 2014 Leon, but got used to it- all you have to do is click a dial that's barely a move away from the steering wheel.

I have them in my 2014 A3- they work a lot better than those in my 2012 Leon so it's nice to be able to leave it on auto but I wouldn't say it's a dealbreaker having gone with and without.

Probably something that is possible to retro fit without too much trouble I'd have thought.

Would never be without Auto-Lights and Wipers after having them for a while now.

If you cannot find a car which has them from the factory I can retrofit everything needed for a very competitive price :)

Yes there is. It's called a PriceList published by Audi UK. Have a look at their website. Obviously the current PriceList will be for MY2018 cars. If you send me a PM with your email address and the date your car was ordered I can sent you a PDF of the PriceLIst current at that time which will list all the standard equipment and the options available.

thanks for that, pm sent.

I would defo miss the auto-lights option. Don't think I would buy a car without them now, seems like a step back. As mentioned above, driving through tunnels, car parks and so on makes it so much easier. The auto-wipers can be a little sensitive but after the first wipe they seem to settle down. You must be looking at a really base spec A3? When I got my 2014 model I looked a lot of these options. Seemed like just the SE model that didn't have them but they could be added as an optional extra.

I miss CH/LH lights.. Was a very easy retrofit on my 8P, looked at the prices for my 8V.. Really cannot justify it unfortunately :frown:

Ormesome, like you said it's like a step back and I don't want to spend all this money for a lower spec car than I already have.

As for the model it's got to be an sline with lowish miles. I'd proffer the 184 diesel & budget was between 15 - 20k I guess it would be easier to find on the 150. Was having a look at the S3, thinking of stretching the budget

At least I know now that if I'm without them I can get them retro fitted, doesn't seem like such a big deal now. Cheers bittern & DJAlix

Surely the S-Line A3 comes with auto lights/wipers? Although from what iv seen Audi does seem to like to ask for more money as the trim level goes up but the options sometimes dont correlate with the price/trim level hike... Are you looking at a Pre-facelift or Facelift model?

I'd miss the auto lights, but the auto wipers not so much!

l have never used Auto...lights nor wipers.....biggest gadget fail ever....they also reduce the longevity of your wiper blades and the xenon bulbs...

Unfortunately not standard :( looking at the pre-facelift test drove a 184 s tronic today which has them but didn't have the satnav & it seemed over priced for mile and age at 19k

Going back tomorrow with the Mrs so she can have her say, while i'm there also going to try an S3 not the ones i'd get but to have a feel S3 (has auto lights).

A3 - has the spec I want, seems a better deal than the one I drove today if i can get the price down a bit.

S3 - really like the look of but i do about 12k miles a year maybe i should leave the S3 alone till i work closer to home.

Both lovely cars. If you go for the S3, defo get that rear net sorted by the dealer before you agree a price. to be honest, they are totally different cars, diesel vs petrol. i have neither, mine is a 1.6tdi, so cant give you any advice between these two exact models. Really down to how many miles you drive and what you want out of a car. I think 12k miles is petrol territory. The diesel does seem over priced, i wouldnt pay that to be honest.
