As above ... I've never herd an s3 in real life with an aftermarket turbo back exhaust .... Do they Sound nice ? And do they pop and bang ? I had a corsa Vxr with a turbo back milltek and I could get that to pop and bang on command! Was awesome, it's what I miss the most about that little beauty 😂

You're going to be disappointed...popping and banging is very limited with TFSI's, literally you get the odd one after a good thrashing but thats about it, even with a aftermarket TBE on there.

Have a word with Rick@unicorn for flatshift mapping etc and it'll do it a little more then.

Have a look on YT for some videos of them, they sound really throaty with a full TBE system, the BCS power valve system (which is about £1140 delivered for anyones info ;) which is discounted for AS members! Will give more of the rally car sound, again look on YT or FB for some videos of them!

Ahh that sucks :( ! Yeah I've looked on yt for vids but you never get the true sound of the exhaust on there. Been looking into the bcs system and all is looking good so far 👍

BCS, Milltek, Supersprint or Blueflame are the ones to pick from really.

All damn good really, Milltek most tried and tested, suffers from weld cracking on the top flange, easily fixed though, simple reweld.

Usually doesnt happen if you have uprated engine mounts so there is less engine movement under acceleration.

Might be a daft question but can you make an S3 spit flames from a Full TBE system?

Popping and banging on the over-run or between gears has a lot to do with fuelling, and as mjr901 has suggested, you can make the engine do that, but it won't help either the performance or the economy(!)

Mine will produce the occasional bang, and even less often a flame or two,but that's about it,whereas my old ALS equipped Escort would produce flames on demand.

WOT box will make plenty of noise, but the downside is load on the transmission, and to be honest,a BT kit doesn't make much in the way of popping/banging.

It does change the exhaust note, maybe due the the different A/r of the turbine, but mine sounds quite angry as AMD described it.

DSG equipped S3's do pop a bit on up and down changes, I did stick my go pro on the back of mine a while ago, have a search, I didn't think it sounded too bad for a standard exhaust!
Nothing like evos or cosies though

Had so much fun with go pros looking at exhausts!! ;) got some monster flames out of a mates Subaru! And a Clio 182 running a "pop and bang" map!

The thing is that all of those are down to fuelling and timing...if you run fuel during the over run between gears etc, then you get the flames and so on,but newer, craftier ECUs don't do that sort of thing to anything like the same degree.

The way that some of the older anti-lag systems used to work was to ****** the ignition, keep the idle control valve open, and continue fuelling when the throttle was closed, ensuring that a lot of fuel was burnt in the exhaust manifold, and gas flow through the turbine was kept up,ensuring almost instant boost when the throttle was opened again.

The downside was very high EGTs and turbine temps, and the need for exotic alloys such as Inconel and Mar-M247 to make the turbines from.

The flames from an old-school ALS system were great fun though....I remember a few people pulling off after I'd passed them thinking they'd blown a tyre or something.

Yeah, I had AMD make me one up. The noise was too much for me without it. With the cat it sounds really nice rather than raw.
I also had my R32 probed by the DVLA at the side of the road and I've seen them about my way so I don't want to take the risk.
It makes a lovely pop inbetween gears and when you let off just before boost starts to build (not a huge bang) and again sometimes on downshift. I'll see if I can stick my gopro on the rear window and catch a few.
After a few tests I think the cat is OK... We'll see :whip:

Mine won't function with one to be fair.

It sounds more than angry now.
