Do i dont or dont i forge my engine

The bores look good no pick up marks or scores from what we can see and they have been lightly honed.

remember which valves went were if you don't plan on grinding them or if your using new valves then you must seat them properly

have you decide on software yet as that tuner will determine which turbo to get, example would be taking a bmw to merc to modify, they can do it but not as good as they would with a merc...probably the worst example of how tuners tune the tunes haha

I don't think that's too much of a worry at the level of a hybrid turbo,as much of what's available software wise will utilise a TTE480 or equivalent without problems, and the custom tuners such as Rick @ Unicorn, are pretty adaptable.

The real issue is as you've kind of suggested, and that's experience with a particular engine, and much more importantly when you get into the realms of big turbos such as GTX3576 or 3582s where the hardware requirements start to impact on what the stock ECU can and can't do.

Up to that level(i.e.below 500BHP),I don't think it's a problem, now that the better tuners have got experience with the hybrids available.

this is why we keep you around... and that you have a mental car haha

but yes a lot of tuners know how to make product 1 2 and 3 work but not 4 with 2, and since I'm from RSA i can only suggest unicorn as most of the builds i follow come from them

i did keep the valves in order while resetting them and they went back in sweet.
Ive been recomended to go to r tech for tuning as they have a good rep for tfsi engines ive never used them before but i hear good things about them.
I managed to get the pistons in the block today aswell nice an shinny :)

Out of all the tuners who I've had personal interactions with, RTech seem to stand out more than others - Niki knows the TFSI engine and the ECU like the back of his hand and specialises in tuning these engines. For anything above Stg2+ tune, I'd highly recommend him.

good job, i remember the head ache i gave my self building a bike motor and just throwing the valves in any order i picked them up in.it idled never ran ****, drank fuel like a car...overall it was problematic to say the least lol

I have to say i think the only way to build an engine is start from scratch. So often people will rebore and new pistons just to knock the big ends out, they do the big ends and it takes the mains out. Bores that look good are often not round. Pistons cold are never round anyway :) Valves are matched to their guides but would you fit old valves and guides and would you not re cut the seats anyway ? More power is more thrust on the thrust bearings and so on and so on....and what about balancing ?
I realise all this is expense but you are looking at not just a stock engine, you are looking at getting a couple of hundred extra bhp out of it as well ?
Obviously i work in the bike engine world and all these things are much more manageable, separate barrels and parts you can actually pick up for starters but surely principles the same ...

Glad you posted this and not me. All I often hear is I’m going to forge my engine yet completely look over the small details of uprating the wear and tear components

Its difficult, i don't want to pee on people fireworks but really there is a time honoured way of doing these things established through many peoples trial and error over the years , New pistons and rings in old bores ?
